Christine McGuinness reveals why she prefers dating women as she’s ‘free spirit’

Celebs Go Dating star Christine McGuinness, who was once married to former Take me Out host Paddy, has opened up about why she now prefers dating women over men

Christine McGuinness has discussed why she prefers dating women.

The 37-year-old Celebs Go Dating star was married to Take Me Out host Paddy McGuinness, 57, but they split in 2022. They continue to co-parent their three children, Leo, Penelope and Felicity.

But the former Miss Liverpool has revealed she wants her next serious relationship to be with a woman as she can have a “deeper connection” with them. She also said she doesn’t want someone who is “playing games”.

She told The Sun: “I describe my sexuality as being a free spirit. Now I’m enjoying spending time with women. I can just have a deeper connection with a woman. I like someone who knows what they want and isn’t playing games.”

Christine has only been dating women for the past three years, and it’s said she’s had romantic relationships with rapper, model and DJ Roxxxan, and singer Chelcee Grimes. However, she refuses to put a label on her sexuality – and says Paddy has always known about this.

She said: “My ex-husband knew about it from when we first met and was fine with it.” Christine briefly joined the latest series of E4’s Celebs Go Dating but decided to leave shortly after shooting began as the timing wasn’t right.

Dating expert Anna Williamson told The Sun: “It wasn’t the right time for Christine to continue her journey in the agency. I think this is the absolute beauty of what the Celebrity Dating agency does – yes, it’s a TV show, but it’s also real.

“And for Christine it was very brave that she wanted to dip her toe back into the world of dating and throughout the process of us getting to know her, she realised that perhaps this actually wasn’t quite the right time for her to be doing that and took a great deal of confidence and bravery inside to recognise and actually now is not the right time.”

However, it’s reported she returned to the show for the finale in London. “Christine’s return was kept top secret from everyone, so they were all so excited to see her come back,” a source told The Sun.

“The cast were really sad when she quit the show, even though they totally supported and understood her reasons, so it was great to see her come back. She started the journey with them all, so it was the perfect end that she got to finish the series with them too.

“Christine may not have found love on the show, but she seemed really happy and in a great place. Leaving the show was the right decision for her but she loved being back in the mix without the pressure of having to actually date on camera.”

Christine and Paddy tied the knot in 2011 and share their three children, twins Leo and Penelope, and younger daughter Felicity. Christine and Paddy still co-parent three children, who live with autism and featured in their 2021 BBC documentary, Our Family And Autism.
