Former Coronation Street actress Katie McGlynn has reportedly split from former The Only Way Is Essex star Ricky Rayment after two years of dating and being engaged
Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn has reportedly split from her boyfriend of two years, former The Only Way Is Essex star Ricky Rayment, due to the challenges of a long-distance relationship.
McGlynn, who played Sinead Tinker on the ITV soap, resides in Manchester, while Rayment, who rose to fame on another ITV show, lives in Essex. The former couple has removed all evidence of each other from their social media accounts.
Their breakup comes a year after they sparked engagement rumors when McGlynn was spotted wearing a diamond ring on Valentine’s Day. The couple had been dating since October 2023, when they met while on vacation at the same location.
Their relationship was made public in February last year, after they were seen walking hand-in-hand down a busy shopping street.
A source revealed that the couple’s romance has ended, but they remain friends and want to maintain a civil relationship. The source told MailOnline: “Katie and Ricky have ended their romance, they’re still friends and want to remain civil but in terms of a romantic relationship, it’s definitely over,” reports the Mirror.
They added: “It was difficult at times for them dating even though they lived miles apart from each other but ultimately it just wasn’t meant to be.”
McGlynn had previously denied engagement rumors during their first joint interview last year. In an interview with the Mirror and OK! Magazine, Katie revealed: “I’ve never thought about a proposal before; it’s not something I’ve dreamed about like other girls. But we are very happy – the happiest – and Ricky is very romantic. I know that he would pull out all the stops.”
Ricky, on the other hand, first discovered Katie while watching her emotional Coronation Street storyline, which saw her character pass away after battling cervical cancer. He shared: “I thought then she was amazing. I followed her on Twitter but I never had the courage to post or message her.”
However, he believed that things wouldn’t have worked out between them at the time, explaining: “We had different things going on in our lives, different career paths. But meeting on that cruise was just the most perfect timing.”
Katie also looked back on their relationship, saying: “I think we preferred to be alone rather than with someone who wasn’t right – but it’s definitely been worth the wait!”.
She continued: “It sounds cringey, but when we chatted on that cruise, I felt like I was at home. It was so comfortable. We couldn’t stop laughing, and we found we had a lot of shared interests and views; we understood each other.”
Initially, though, Katie was hesitant about Ricky.
She admitted: “I recognised his face and just assumed he wasn’t going to be my type of person – you know, Jack, the lad from Essex – and I took it for granted we wouldn’t get on… happy to say I got that one wrong.”
In recent years, Katie has been thriving in her showbiz career, while Ricky has kept a lower profile, concentrating on his business ventures as the owner of Crowsheath Fishery, which he described as the “best decision of his life.”
