Eva Price star Catherine Tyldesley has dyed her hair blonde ahead of her return to Coronation Street, in a major comeback storyline for the character after seven years
Catherine Tyldesley has transformed her hair colour ahead of her highly anticipated Coronation Street comeback.
The 41-year-old actress is poised to make a dramatic return to the ITV soap, reprising her iconic role as Eva Price seven years after her departure.
Throughout her original time on the cobbles, Eva was known for her striking platinum blonde tresses, but following her exit from the soap, Catherine swiftly reverted to her natural brunette shade whilst appearing on Strictly Come Dancing. She maintained the darker hue for subsequent roles in programmes including Scarborough and Viewpoint, but a Tuesday Instagram post revealed she’s once again embraced her blonde persona.
The actress posted two photographs of herself with pals during a Manchester dinner outing, and The Sun reports this social gathering occurred just days before she’s due back on set at MediaCityUK to commence filming. Catherine, who originally sported brunette hair when she landed her breakthrough role in BBC drama Lilies before joining Coronation Street, has previously revealed that producers believed barmaid Eva should have blonde locks.
During a 2019 Lorraine interview, she recalled: “When I first started Corrie I’d done a sketch show and was blonde. They felt Eva was blonde and so did I. I keep walking past windows and mirror and think ‘Oh!’ and forget I’ve done it. A lady came up to me and said I think you should be blonde,” reports the Mirror.
Over a span of seven years, Catherine navigated her character through a series of relationships with characters such as Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas), Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) and Nick Tilsey (Ben Price). Her most significant relationship was with Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward), which began to unravel when he started an affair with Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon).
Rather than confronting Aidan about his infidelity, she exacted revenge by purchasing a bright pink Range Rover on his credit card and then faked a pregnancy. Maria uncovered Eva’s deception and revealed it at their wedding, but Eva later found out that she was indeed pregnant with Aidan’s child.
To secretly give birth, she retreated to a secluded cottage and planned to hand baby Susie over to Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor). However, following Aidan’s suicide, Eva developed a bond with her daughter and ultimately chose to leave for good in a taxi with her.
Should Eva make a comeback and take the reins at the Rovers, she’ll be following in the illustrious footsteps of past characters like Annie Walker (Doris Speed), Bet Lynch (Julie Goodyear) and Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard), all of whom have presided over the nation’s favourite pub throughout the show’s run. One such landlady is Jenny Connor, who is set to bid farewell to the ITV soap.
