Former Coronation Street actress Lucy-Jo Hudson has shared an honest post with followers, explaining a difficult health condition she had been battling
Ex-Coronation Street star Lucy-Jo Hudson has shared a worrying photo from a hospital bed as she said she was previously rushed to A&E. The soap star, who was previously married to Tyrone Dobbs actor Alan Halsall, posted the throwback snap in honour of National Blood Week.
The aim of the special week is to get people talking about blood donation, something Lucy-Jo revealed she had benefited from two years ago. She explained that she had been rushed to hospital two years ago after a number of health issues.
“I was constantly exhausted, running on empty, struggling to breath, low mood, really struggling in my overall mental and physical health, and I just put id down to the fast pace of ‘life’,” she said. “Because in today’s world you’re expected to be able to juggle it all right?
“And the daily stresses of being a working mum, and spinning a million plates is blumming stressful… but what I didn’t realise is that the reason I was feeling all of this is because I had an underlying health issue… Chronic Anaemia.”
She said that this meant she was in “desperate need of a blood transfusion”, which is why she was rushed to hospital.
“It turned out that my haemoglobin levels were that dangerously low I needed two transfusions and I was kept in hospital for a few days so they could keep an eye on my levels,” she went on.
“The staff at Salford Royal Hospital were amazing, I really felt I was in the best hands, especially Dr Rob Jackson, he was unbelievable and I’ll always be so grateful to him and his team in the A&E department.
“So I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to each and everyone one of you who donate blood! What you do is truly amazing.”
Lucy-Jo noted that one blood donation can save up to three lives, adding: “Mine included.” She went on to share where blood donations are used, in treatment such as emergencies, operations, childbirth and many more.
The soap star then prompted people to find out more and potentially sign up to be a new donor, as according to blood.co.uk, one million new donors are needed over the next five years to ensure there is enough supply of the different types of blood.
Many people in the comments shared their stories of being a donor, with one writing: “Giving my 74th donation next week.” Another said: “Donated last week and got a text today to say where it had been used.”
Someone else wrote: “I’m giving on Thursday.” As another said: “I’m on donation 14 now… nice to be able to give back.”
