EXCLUSIVE: Former Dancing On Ice winner James Jordan has been sharing his commentary on the show and discussing how it compares to it’s rival reality TV competition
Former Dancing On Ice star James Jordan has opened up about how the show compares to it’s biggest rival, Strictly Come Dancing.
The ex pro Strictly dancer shot to fame on the BBC show and has since dipped his toe on the ice after winning the show in 2019. When asked about the programme during a collaboration with Sky Vegas.com, he shared: “I love the show – I’ve been part of it, and it was an amazing experience.
“I truly enjoyed every moment. Change is fine, but it shouldn’t be made just for the sake of change. Having been involved, I know how challenging it can be.
“I’m surprised Dancing on Ice isn’t as popular as Strictly Come Dancing, because what you’re doing on the ice is similar to what you do on Strictly. There has to be a reason for the difference, though. Maybe it’s the warmth that Strictly has – it’s hard to pinpoint what exactly makes it work.
“I love Strictly – the format is spot on. There’s clearly something missing from Dancing on Ice, but I just can’t figure out what that is.”
The dancer also revealed that despite putting on a happy front, contestants and their pro partners might not be getting on as well with one another behind-the-scenes.
James explained: “Having done Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing on Ice for many years, I’ve genuinely seen incredible connections [between the celebrities and the professionals].
“You don’t always see that on camera – there’s also the opposite, where they can’t stand each other. On camera, everyone at home thinks they’re best friends and one big happy family, but that’s not always the case.
“A lot of it depends on that brief time during the live shows and how the VTs are edited. Don’t believe everything you see on camera, because some of those connections are genuinely lovely, while others can’t stand each other. It happens – you’re not going to get on with everyone in life.”
He added: “It’s tough to tell sometimes, even for me, when I’m watching it. I’ve heard from friends who’ve been involved with the show or worked behind the scenes that some pairs couldn’t stand each other. I’d be shocked because I’d assume they were best buddies. As a viewer now, I also find it really hard to tell apart.”
