Crime drama Dexter is set to return for another sequel series later this year, but some fans of the serial killer hit don’t think it should be spun out any longer
Dexter fans have let rip after a teaser for the new series dropped, saying the show should be allowed “to die”.
The original crime drama starred Michael C Hall as secret serial killer Dexter Morgan, who only killed baddies who hadn’t been properly punished for their crimes. The show, which is currently available on Netflix, was a huge hit, airing from 2006 to 2013. It also spawned prequel series Original Sin and sequel series Dexter: New Blood, which ran from 2021 to 2022.
Actor Michael is now returning for another sequel, Dexter: Resurrection, but it seems not all fans think it’s a good idea. Several posted messages on social media suggesting it might be time for the franchise to cool it – and pointing out that Dexter was meant to have died in New Blood anyway.
The new teaser showed a man reading a newspaper with the headline “Dexter Morgan is dead” splashed across the top. As the paper is slowly lowered, Dexter is revealed to be the man reading it. Flashing a rather sinister smile, he raises one eyebrow as he stares into the camera.
Lots of fans questioned the need for a new series about the vigilante killer, who was presumed dead after being shot by his son Harrison (Jack Alcott) at the end of New Blood. “We really don’t need this resurrection tbh,” one posted on X, as someone else agreed: “Draggin’ it now.”
“The last season was complete dogs***,” said another viewer. “Let it die a horrid death.” One other said: “DEXTER is one of the weirdest series ever.”
“I’ve never seen a horse beaten to death this much,” one fan commented. Another chimed in: “So a sequel to the sequel? Just end it.”
“Damn man how many times they going to do Dexter,” another viewed asked. Somebody else remarked: “I’ve had more than enough, thanks. Barf.”
One urged Dexter bosses: “Let this show die bro.” Another viewer sniped: “They’re beating this poor series to death again now…”
“This can stop,” insisted one person. “I feel like Dexter has started/ended like 3 times. There’s no need for this.”
However, others said they were looking forward to checking back in with Dexter when the show arrives in July. “Can’t wait to watch this one!” said one excited fan. “Saw all 8 seasons of Dexter.”
Another person said they “cheered” when they heard the news and someone else exclaimed: “Woah! Dexter was such a good show. Can’t wait!”
“If this is going to work, they need to bring back the side of him that is smart, calculated, and follows the code,” one viewer mused. “The fans would love it.”
