Actress Pik-Sen Lim has passed away at the age of 80.
Pik-Sen shot to fame as Chung Su-Lee in the 1970s hit comedy Mind Your Language and was also renowned for her role in the Doctor Who serial The Mind of Evil.
Actor Daniel York Loh took to Instagram to express his sorrow, penning a heartfelt tribute: “An iconic figure in so many ways, I’d seen her on TV in Mind Your Language amongst other things when I was a kid.'”.
“She was so affectionate, so witty, so brilliantly scabrous and absolutely honest about the rubbish this industry deals actors of our heritage – unlike a fair few others who actually try and cape it.
“We’ll miss you so much but thank you, Pixi, for blessing our lives with your unique presence,” reports the Mirror.
Originally from British Malaya, Pik-Sen moved to Britain at 16 to chase her acting ambitions. She was the offspring of palm oil tycoon Lim Cheng-Teik and earned the nickname ‘Pixie’ during her time at a convent school in Penang.
Despite her family’s disapproval of her acting aspirations, by the 60s she began landing parts in series like Emergency Ward 10, where she portrayed a nurse. It was during this period that she met her future husband, scriptwriter Don Houghton, whom she wed in 1968.
She featured in her spouse’s scripted Doctor Who serial The Mind of Evil in 1971. Pik-Sen also shone in three series of the sitcom Mind Your Language, where she used an exaggerated Chinese accent.
Pik-Sen also featured in Albion Market (1985) and Night and Day (2003), Arabian Nights (2000), The Bill (2005) and even made an appearance in Little Britain as a side character alongside David Walliams and Matt Lucas.
