Fans of EastEnders have pointed out a big blunder in Sonia Fowler’s exit scenes.

Played by Natalie Cassidy, Sonia bid farewell to Walford during Thursday night’s (April 17) episode. The soap legend left the soap after 32 years ahead of a huge career change, but not before Sonia faced a surprising return by her estranged dad Terry Cant, played by Glen Davies.

In the emotional scenes, Sonia headed off into the sunset together with Bianca Jackson, played by Patsy Palmer, and Bex Fowler, played by Jasmine Armfield. The trio left the Square to head to Bali for a fresh start – away from all the drama of BBC’s Walford.

But after the episode aired, some eagle-eyed viewers noticed there seemed to be someone missing from the group. The episode featured Sonia stealing Terry’s car, boat and plane tickets so they could run to Bali together.

Before she left the East End for good, Sonia headed to the graveyard, where she laid flowers for her darling ex-husband Martin, played by James Bye. Martin died after a metal beam fell on top of him in the midst of the fire that engulfed the Queen Vic during the show’s live episode for its 40th birthday.

When asked by her pals if she was off to Bali, Sonia explained: “Well yeah, that’s where we’re going to start off, Bex is going to find us some visas and everything, and then we’re just going to wing it.” Bianca then proceeded to hand Sonia a trumpet so she could play it all the way to Stansted Airport before “putting it in the bin”.

With Sonia blasting her trumpet as she headed out of the Square, her fellow cast members cheered her on. But some fans picked up on the fact that one vital person was missing from the plans to head to Bali – Sonia’s daughter Julia.

Many fans flocked to social media to share their concerns for the little one’s safety. “Not being funny, and love Sonia & Bianca, but where was baby Julia at the end?” one viewer asked on X.

A second chimed in: “Did you forget someone, Sonia? Where was the baby?” Whilst a third was left stunned as they wrote: “Looks like Sonia left without baby Julia!”

Other fans were left in fits of laughter as Sonia – notorious for her poor trumpeting skills – played herself out on the horned instrument, albeit rather poorly. Many praised Sonia’s exit as she rode out with Bianca in the speedboat they stole from dad Terry.

“Wasn’t expecting to be so emotional watching this,” one viewer sobbed. “Bye Sonia and Bianca.”

A second viewer also admitted to shedding a tear for the dynamic duo’s exit. “Why the hell am I crying at Sonia in a speedboat with a trumpet?!” they penned.

Sonia’s final scenes were particularly emotional as she paid a visit to all the spots in the show where she had particularly vivid memories. She also was able to bring Dot Cotton back from the dead as her voice could be heard over one of Sonia’s moments of reminiscing – all while she packed her stuff and upped sticks.

EastEnders airs every weekday at 7:30pm on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
