Elon Musk defended Russell Brand over a media “witch hunt” back in 2023 after allegations were made against the Get Him To The Greek actor
Elon Musk has previously defended and supported Russell Brand.
In a 2023 interview with right-wing media campaigner Ben Shapiro, Elon discussed the Get Him To The Greek actor and how his content had been demonetised by YouTube at the time.
Musk warned people that they should be cautious and not make any false accusations against the actor, who has today [4 April 2025] been charged with one count each of rape, indecent assault and oral rape as well as two counts of sexual assault, as reported by the Metropolitan Police.
Elon said: “Obviously we’re just sort of in the witch burning phase here; just being declared a witch is enough to make you a witch and be burnt.”
The Tesla and X/Twitter boss also said that “anyone could be accused at any time of false charges” and explained that people “can’t be destroying their lives on the potential of false accusations”.
Musk also believed that the action taken against Brand was down to him “rattling the cage” of the mainstream media.
The businessman continued: “Seems like an odd coincidence that it’s happening when Russell is really gaining traction, questioning a lot of the conventional wisdom.”
“I think we’re running out of conspiracy theories that didn’t turn out to be true.”
Comedian and actor Russell Brand is known for his roles in Get Him To The Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. The media personality has been charged after an investigation that began in September 2023.
The official Met Police website has reported: “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man following an investigation by detectives.”
“The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Russell Brand, 50 (04.02.1975), of Oxfordshire, in connection with the following offences – one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, two counts of sexual assault.”
Brand has previously denied the claims made against him and since the charges were made public, Brand has shared a video in which he states: “I never was a rapist.” Met Police have also announced that the TV star will be appearing at Westminster Magistrates Court on 2 May.
Their report also explained the allegations held against him: “It is alleged that in 1999 a woman was raped in the Bournemouth area, in 2001 a woman was indecently assaulted in the Westminster area of London, in 2004 a woman was orally raped and sexually assaulted in the Westminster area of London, and between 2004 and 2005 a woman was sexually assaulted in the Westminster area of London.”
The Met Police said that the charges “relate to four separate women”.
