Coronation Street and Emmerdale will be crossing over for an hour-long mash-up episode.
The episode is set to celebrate the launch of the new scheduling pattern on ITV1 and STV in January 2026.
Corrie and Emmerdale will be joining forces for the one-off special for the first time in British TV history.
Characters from both shows will cross paths as production work to collaborate storylines that promises “everlasting consequences for everyone involved”.
The scriptwriting has been branded “ingenious” as soap creators work tirelessly behind the scenes to “link the two universes” together.
Although Coronation Street and Emmerdale will coincide for just one day, the characters are set to return to their respective Manchester and Yorkshire based locations.

ITV explained: “The episode will be self-contained, but the consequences of the high-stakes drama will have repercussions for both communities and see them linked forever as familiar faces depart and exciting new characters arrive into both soaps.”
“Each soap will then return to its new normal pattern of transmission – 30 minutes each evening – Emmerdale episodes at 8pm, and Coronation Street episodes at 8.30pm on ITV1 and STV. Episodes will continue to drop at 7am on ITVX and STV Player, before transmission that evening.”
ITV have also promised “an extra treat for viewers” as the producers are “inviting the audience to choose which two characters they would like to see meet and interact in a scene”.
One star from each soap is set to be chosen as details will be launched in June via the soaps’ official social media channels.
