TV star Rylan Clark has faced a tumultuous few years after his marriage to Dan Neal ended in divorce, with the former X Factor star publicly admitting his infidelities
Telly favourite Rylan Clark is scheduled to link up with BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills to deliver the commentary for the highly anticipated Eurovision Song Contest 2025 Semi-Final, set to air on BBC One on May 13 and 15.
Rylan shot to stardom on X Factor back in 2012, but behind the glitz, he’s been grappling with personal difficulties following the collapse of his marriage to Dan Neal in 2021.
The 36-year-old, who first encountered his hubby Dan during an eviction chat on Big Brother’s Bit on the Side, openly acknowledged his role in their separation, citing his own acts of infidelity as the cause.
Rylan had to come clean in June 2021 with a statement about the end of his matrimony with Dan, saying: “Following reports about Dan and I spending time apart, I feel I have to speak out – as the way it is being reported is unfair.”

Depression and time off work
Plunged into a debilitating depression after opening up to Dan about his cheating, Rylan went through what he recalls as an incredibly distressing time, dealing with intense depressive episodes subsequently, reports the Irish Mirror.
Speaking frankly with The Guardian, Rylan shared how profoundly affected he was saying: “My body completely shut down. I wouldn’t eat.”
He further detailed the nightmare he lived through, admitting: “I went through a stage where I couldn’t even talk, which for some people might be quite handy. My speech was just slurred. My mum thought I was having a stroke. My body just went.”
He even stepped back from his gig at BBC Radio 2. Chatting to The Guardian’s Observer, he said: “I’d got to the point where I didn’t know if I wanted to come back.
“Or whether I would be able to do this job again. I’d got… quite ill. I went down to just over 9st and I’m 6ft 4in. It got bad. Like, very bad. And I didn’t think it would get better. I needed help.”
Infidelities
In his tell-all memoir, Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future, Rylan owned up to being unfaithful multiple times during his six-year marriage.
Coming clean, he admitted: “I have no excuses for what I did way back then, but I had my reasons. I think for many years I had felt a bit like an imposter. That nothing I was doing was right or not quite good enough.”
After laying his cards on the table with Dan, Rylan was taken aback that his other half chose not to stick around, as he wrote in his book: “He left. Told me it was over and that was that. You’re not surprised? I get that. But I couldn’t believe it.”
Loneliness
Recovering in solitude, Rylan devoted time to piecing his life and himself back together. Opening up to Oti Mabuse and Emma Willis on a Red Nose Day trek, he confided: “I’ve personally had a bad few years with my mental health, with my physical health. I’m looking forward to doing this because I’ve rebuilt my life and rebuilt my body.”
Rylan got real about his life upheaval, sharing: “The last few years my whole life completely changed, and the year after it happened I wasn’t in the best place. Now I’m back to feeling normal. This year I’ve gone, ‘Say yes to things you’d never say yes to’.”
Rob Rinder rumours
Rob Rinder and Rylan have been stirring up gossip with their tight-knit connection on Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour, which won a Bafta. Rylan might’ve called the telly gig his “therapy” when bagging the award but was quick to quash any whispers of a romantic link-up on Jessie and Lennie Ware’s Table Manners podcast.
Putting the goss to bed once and for all, Rylan quipped: “I find it funny because I adore him, but we are like a married couple; we row all the time and we don’t have sex.”
Dating
Rylan let slip to BBC Radio 2’s Zoe Ball that he’s ducked out of the dating app scene.
Amidst playful banter, Zoe teased: “You’ve got a twinkle in your eye. I know you always have a twinkle in your eye, but that’s a particularly big one,” leading Rylan to crack a joke about having a stye.
Faced with Zoe’s cheeky probes, he came clean: “I’m not on the apps no more, I’ve come off all the apps and I’m alright.”
Eurovision Song Contest 2025 Semi-Final, airing on BBC One, on May 13 and 15, at 8pm.
