Former TV presenter and fitness guru Jody Bunting has been cleared of attempted murder and wounding with intent after one of his colleagues suffered an allergic reaction to a chocolate bar
TV presenter Jody Bunting has been cleared of attempted murder after he was arrested in 2023.
Bunting was known for hosting Big Breakfast and was arrested for attempted murder and wounding with intent after one of his colleagues suffered an allergic reaction to a chocolate bar.
The 47-year-old Channel 4 star touched down from his holiday in Morocco on 2 November at Luton Airport, where he was met by police following an incident at Mickleover Court Hotel Leisure Club, Derby on 29 October 2023.
Bunting was arrested after allegations that he attempted to murder Kimberly Hoskins with a piece of chocolate. The presenter was accused of planting the chocolate on purpose while being aware she had severe allergies.
He strongly denied the claims made against him and clarified that he’d taken the chocolate in while Hoskins was signed off work. Bunting left the half-eaten bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk Fruit and Nut in the staff room at the Mickleover Court Hotel Leisure Club.
Hoskins was administered an EpiPen shot as she suffers from a life-threatening allergy to cocoa. She was then rushed to intensive care and remained there for five days.
DerbyshireLive has reported that on 12 March Bunting’s mother received confirmation that the investigation into him was over. This comes over a year after it began.
A solicitor wrote to Jody saying: “We write to simply confirm that we now have been informed by the police that they are taking no further action against you.”
Bunting has since addressed the news and said: “This has been going on for so long and we always get letters from the solicitor, so I think when my mum saw it come through the door, we weren’t really expecting good or bad news.”
“But she was just so relieved, she was relieved more than me. The whole thing has just been he said/she said and it has been so hard on her to understand what was going on.”
He continued: “For me, my professional career had been put on hold. I felt I had to get away from Derby because people would always ask me about the case and I found it really hard to be unable to return to the hotel where I worked, where I also had lots of friends and a job.”
The former presenter said that the “whole thing turned his life upside down” and he has now “finally been given the justice he deserves”.
Bunting was released on bail following his arrest and was allowed to keep his passport. He now lives in Morocco and has remained in the fitness world as an online coach.
The star has built a new life away from the UK and has revealed he “met a guy in the last year” and they have “been living together in Morocco”. The pair “recently got engaged” and Bunting said: “The thought of marrying the love of my life is what keeps me going after what has been a year of hell.”
A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police have provided a statement: “We understand the impact that a long-running investigation can have on those involved, however, it is the duty of the force to thoroughly and proportionately investigate reports made to us.”
“The offence that was reported to the force was serious, and the public would rightly expect officers to make all relevant enquiries and gather evidence. On this occasion it was found there was insufficient evidence for a prosecution to be brought.”
