Fiona Phillips’ husband Martin Frizell has made a heartbreaking deathbed confession about the former GMTV presenter as she sadly battles early onset Alzheimer’s
Fiona Phillips’ husband has delivered a heartbreaking confession as the former GMTV presenter wages war against early onset Alzheimer’s.
The ITV legend was first struck down with the cruel condition in 2022 when she was just 61 years old.
Now 64, she’s being looked after by her devoted 66-year-old husband Martin Frizell, the former This Morning executive.
During a gut-wrenching BBC interview earlier this year, Martin opened his heart to Newsnight’s Victoria Derbyshire: “I don’t think Fiona’s ever going to be able to taste a glass of wine again, walk on a beach properly again, go on holiday again, go to the theatre, go to the cinema, drive her car, cook a meal for her children.
“And my worry is, on her deathbed whenever that may come and hopefully a long time from now, will she even know who we are? There’s no remission for Alzheimer’s.”
The couple have just launched their book Remember When, which chronicles Fiona’s heartbreaking health journey, reports the Express.
In a recent Instagram update, Martin shared another gut-wrenching revelation after their memoir soared to number one on the Sunday Times Bestseller list.
He penned: “I’m sitting under a pink awning hence the colour of the Sunday Times Bestsellers list – the chart everyone wants to be on. And for the fifth consecutive week, Fiona is on the bestsellers list (she made No1).
“She wants to say a massive thank you to everyone who has shown interest in her story, it’s really lifted her mood.
“Can I also thank the many folk who have been in touch with their own stories, suggestions of new treatments and memories of Fiona from her working days.
“I attach my favourite picture of her from a TV location shoot and shows what a force of life and vitality she had.
“It’s from one of the many photo albums we flick through as we enjoy Sting’s essential collection – he’s replaced the Stylistics!”.
