Fortitude and Noel Fielding’s co-star dies after harrowing health battle at 42

Actress Verónica Echegui tragically passed away on Sunday, 24 August, following a battle with cancer. She was just 42.

The news of her illness had been kept private and she was hospitalised in the days leading up to her death. The Madrid-born star, who trained at RADA, was known for her roles in the film Bunny and the Bull, where she starred alongside Great British Bake Off’s Noel Fielding, and Sky’s drama series Fortitude.

Spanish newspaper El Pais hailed her as “an essential talent in Spanish cinema of the last two decades”.

In 2009, she featured in the quirky comedy Bunny and the Bull, acting alongside Noel and his Mighty Boosh co-star Julian Barrett. Her character was a foul-mouthed waitress embroiled in a hallucinogenic road trip involving a kidnapped stuffed bear, tramps and dogs.
