Game of Thrones favourite forced to quit Strictly due to ‘unexpected’ issue

Game of Thrones icon Kristian Nairn has pulled out of Strictly Come Dancing 2025.

The actor and DJ was set to compete for the Glitterball Trophy this year, but an “unexpected” set back has caused him to reconsider.

In a statement Kristian said: “With a heavy heart, I have to step back from this season of Strictly Come Dancing due to unexpected medical reasons. I was truly looking forward to the journey, and I’m deeply sorry to disappoint anyone who was looking forward to seeing me on the dance floor.”

“Thank you all for your support, and I will be back on my feet very soon, in every sense. Love to all, Kristian.”

BBC Studios’ executive producer Sarah James also addressed the decision and said: “We’ve absolutely loved getting to know Kristian in this short time, and he has all the makings of a brilliant Strictly Come Dancing contestant. We’re incredibly sorry to lose him from this year’s series and we all wish him a speedy recovery.”

According to reports, a new celebrity will be joining the Strictly lineup and their identity will be revealed on The One Show, 21 August at 7pm.

The Northern Irish star is best known for playing Hodor in the HBO series Game of Thrones, which was his first acting role. He is also a progressive house/trance DJ and since GOT began, he has toured as part of Rave of Thrones.

Elsewhere in Strictly news former winner Joe McFadden has shared advice for ITV’s Ross King, who will be competing in the BBC series. Speaking on Lorraine, Joe said: “Enjoy every minute!”

Fans will recognise Kristian from HBO’s Game of Thrones

“It’s funny because we have mutual friends so I have said this advice to him personally. Enjoy every minute, do what your partner tells you to an extent and just throw yourself into it.”

“Be yourself! That’s the hard thing, I think you’re out there with all the bells and whistles. The sparkles and the costumes, you think: ‘Oh, I’ve got to be something other than what you are,’ you really don’t have to do that, just have the experience that you’re having and be honest about that.”
