Gemma Collins has broken her silence on social media to reveal that she has been battling pneumonia for the past three weeks, but is still ‘honouring her work commitments’
Gemma Collins has come forward with the news that she’s been grappling with pneumonia. The 44-year-old ex-TOWIE icon took to Instagram on Wednesday to let her followers in on her health woes, confessing she’s been under the weather for three weeks.
In her heartfelt post, she penned: “Hey guys sorry been quiet I have Pneumonia. I’m not as fast or on it as I usually am on the daily. I am still honouring my work commitments which is taking every bit of energy I have but will be back entertaining you all soon.”
On her Instagram Story, she also posted an update showing she was getting treatment via a drip and had consulted a doctor.
Pneumonia, the lung inflammation often sparked by infection, can knock most people off their feet for two to four weeks, but poses a greater threat to infants, seniors, and those with heart or lung issues, sometimes necessitating a hospital stay.
The comment section beneath Gemma’s sickbed bulletin was flooded with well-wishes from fans and celeb mates alike. “You giving us all so much energy and good vibes! Get your rest! Wouldn’t want anything to happen to you,” chimed in pop duo Jedward, who are tight with the reality TV queen, reports the Mirror.
Back in April, Gemma opened up about how shedding pounds has been a boon for her health. Chatting with The Mirror, she divulged that since starting on diabetes medication Mounjaro, which some use to trim down, she’s been feeling more confident than ever, even boasting that her trimmer physique is “saving the NHS”.
“I’ve lost so much weight, you wouldn’t believe it,” she exclaimed. Reflecting on her dramatic change, she added: “It’s just a shame I had to wait until I was 44 for this life-changing drug to come out because being overweight isn’t good for your health, and it’s just so lovely now that I have been able to live like a normal person.
“There’s no food noise anymore. I feel so much better and free as a person to concentrate on other stuff because I’m not constantly thinking about food.”
The concept of “food noise” refers to the incessant, intrusive thoughts about eating that can obsess some people – pondering over what to eat, when to eat, and how much to eat, along with fighting off cravings. These are not mere hunger pangs but persistent thought patterns that can take over one’s day, draining focus, energy, and peace of mind.
