Christian Horner has been axed from his role as Red Bull Team Principal, with a source close to the family now revealing that his wife Geri has made a ‘big decision’ about their future
Following the announcement of Christian Horner’s departure as Red Bull Team Principal, a source close to the family has revealed to Mirror that his wife Geri has made a significant decision about their future, as she is reportedly unhappy with his career change.
Earlier today, it was confirmed that Christian had been relieved of his duties as Red Bull Team Principal. In a statement, Red Bull said: “Red Bull has released Christian Horner from his operational duties with effect from today [Wednesday 9 July 2025] and has appointed Laurent Mekies as CEO of Red Bull Racing.”
Christian and Geri have been married since 2015, with Geri standing by her husband despite allegations of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ towards a female colleague last year, which he denied and was cleared of following an investigation.
Geri supporting her husband
A source has now told Mirror that while Geri is supporting her husband through this new development, it’s not an easy decision. “Geri is going to stand by her man and is supporting him fully. Image means so much to her, but behind closed doors she isn’t happy about the attention this brings.”
The statement from Red Bull, released earlier today, included quotes from Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of Red Bull’s Corporate Projects and Investments, thanking Christian for his work with the team. The news follows a turbulent year for Christian, who was exonerated by Red Bull last year after a three-week probe into allegations of inappropriate behaviour, reports the Mirror.
However, the resolution was marred when messages purportedly exchanged between Christian and a Red Bull Formula One team member were leaked less than 24 hours later.
United front
At the time, Geri presented a united front with her husband, appearing hand-in-hand at the Bahrain Grand Prix shortly after.
Now, an insider suggests that Christian’s departure from Red Bull has left Geri concerned about increased scrutiny on their relationship.
“Image means so much to Geri and she knows everyone will relate it back to the leaked messages and what went on last year, so it’s not easy for her.”
Geri and Christian, married since 2015, have an eight year old son, Montague. They also have a blended family from previous relationships; Geri is mum to 18 year old daughter Bluebell, while Christian shares daughter Olivia with his ex-wife, Beverley Allen.
Geri’s ‘shock’
Following Christian’s investigation, a source told The Sun that the allegations had come as a “shock” to Geri, a mother of two. An insider told The Sun: “People think Geri was just blindly standing by her man through the whole thing, but it’s not like that at all.”
When the allegations first surfaced, the source claimed, the Spice Girls star naturally had questions.
“It was a shock to both of them when the allegations blew up – they never saw it coming and a lot of people were spreading hurtful rumours, but it was all untrue, they are in a really good place right now.”
