Happy Gilmore star Adam Sandler has hinted at the possibility of a third instalment of the movie, following his wife’s bizarre prediction about his life expectancy
Adam Sandler, the star of Happy Gilmore, has tantalisingly teased the prospect of a third film in the series, following an unexpected forecast from his wife.
Netflix delighted fans by dropping the much-anticipated sequel to Happy Gilmore yesterday (July 25), ending a nearly three-decade hiatus for enthusiasts of the iconic comedy.
The original movie, which premiered in the ’90s, has since achieved cult status and continues to win over new fans years after its initial release.
In a conversation on The Dan Patrick Show, Adam hinted that there might be more laughs in store with a potential third Happy Gilmore film down the line.
Dan Patrick didn’t beat around the bush when he asked the A-lister, “Will there be a Happy Gilmore 3?”—prompting Adam to respond: “I didn’t think of that, Dan. I don’t know, I just got to see how this feels. The two Happy Gilmore movies took long enough,” reports The Mirror US.
However, after Jackie, his wife, made a peculiar prediction, Adam entertained the idea of another sequel: “My wife said to me recently—she thinks I’m going to live, because she’s good at predicting the future—she thinks I’m going to live to 112. She gave me that, so there is time to do a Happy Gilmore 3.”
Despite this, Adam expressed doubts about reaching such a ripe old age, quipping: “112? I don’t know.”
In the original Happy Gilmore film, we see Adam’s character, Gilmore—an aspiring ice hockey player—learn that his grandmother’s house is set to be repossessed unless she can pay back $270,000 in overdue taxes within just 90 days.
After later realising he has a knack for golf, he boldly decides to participate in a local tournament, with a prize that secures him a place on the esteemed PGA Tour. In a humorous twist of fate, he wins the tournament, earning enough money to save his grandmother’s house.
Beyond Happy Gilmore, Adam is also recognised for the numerous other Hollywood films he has both starred in and produced.
One of his most significant cinematic triumphs came in 2010 with the release of Grown Ups, where he portrayed Lenny alongside actors Kevin James and Chris Rock. The film, which Adam also executive produced, was a massive box office success and became the highest-grossing film of his career at that point.
Happy Gilmore 2 is now available to stream on Netflix.
