Madchester icon Bez has got himself a sweet tooth in his older age and is now admitting to guzzling on a gallon of honey every month after becoming interested in beekeeping
Happy Mondays star Bez has revealed he’s a serious honey fiend – chugging back over a gallon of the sticky stuff every month. The maracas-wielding star has opened up on his so-called “honey addiction”.
Despite claiming he’s trying to cut down on sugar, the 61-year-old admitted he goes through “about a gallon, a bucket a month”. Bez, who keeps his own bees, has been a long-time advocate for the sweet stuff after taking up beekeeping 18 years ago. Known for his wild on-stage dances with Shaun Ryder, Bez even compared eating his favourite honey-laden snack to the feeling of dropping an “acid”.
For the Mancunian star, a dollop of honey is now a key ingredient in his tea, coffee, and porridge – but his ultimate treat is orange segments smothered in the golden goo.
His honey obsession has ramped up since giving up sweets. Bez made the revelation while chatting to Flo on NTS Radio in their series Digging with Flo which aired on Tuesday (19 Aug), as reported by What’s The Jam.
He said: “I do about a gallon, a bucket a month or something like that. That’s what my wife keeps telling me. I’m sure it kind of keeps me healthy.
“Tea, coffee, porridge, on bread, yeah, on just about anything really.
“I’ve given up sweets as well recently and all that s*** because I’ve been trying to give up sugar and all that crap. Get a freshly juicy orange, preferably organic so there’s no pesticide s*** in it.
“Get the biggest spoon of honey, just pour it all over the top of your orange what you cut in like segments, so there’s no white bits on it.
“Oh my God.
“I honestly sometimes think I’ve dropped an acid after I’ve ate it, know what I mean – it’s like wow.”
