Glastonbury festival organisers have confirmed a very different act will take to the Other Stage at 9pm on Saturday after US band Deftones pulled out
Iconic rock band Deftones have been forced to cancel their Glastonbury performance with hours to go. The US group had been due on the Other Stage at 8.30pm on Saturday, but festival organisers confirmed their set had been scrapped due to an illness. They released a statement hours before the time slot announcing a very different act.
Glastonbury said: “Deftones have been forced to cancel tonight’s 8.30pm Other Stage performance due to illness in the band. Skepta will kindly step-in, taking the stage at 9pm.”
Rapper Skepta, Joseph Junior Adenuga Jr, said: “Let’s go! No crew, no production but am ready to shut Glastonbury down. Victory lap time. Pre-Big Smoke 2025!”
Following the confirmed time change, Mercury Prize winners Ezra Collective have been bumped from 6.45pm to 7pm on the same stage.
They will now finish at 8.15pm instead.
In a statement on Instagram, Deftones said: “In an unfortunate development, an illness in the band is going to prevent us from Glastonbury tonight.
“We’re devastated to be missing out on something we’ve been looking forward to for months, but sometimes circumstances out of our control interfere with things we want to do the most.”
They added that they hope to return to Glastonbury “soon” and the planned performance in London at Crystal Palace with Weezer on Sunday is still going ahead “as it currently stands”.
Rumours that Deftones had pulled out of Glastonbury swirled a few hours before festival organisers confirmed the news.
The X account SecretGlasto first reported the rockers had “pulled out of their set” but gave no suggestion of who the replacement would be.
The account said: “Sorry to the Deftones fans out there but we have heard they have pulled out of their set this evening. We will let the festival confirm the replacement as we have conflicting info about this at the moment.”
