‘I ate at Jeremy Clarkson’s pub – one thing astounded me and it wasn’t the food’

Jeremy Clarkson opened The Farmer’s Dog back in August 2024 and Top Gear fans have flocked from all over the country to try out the motor journalist’s famous Sunday roast

Jeremy Clarkson’s pub The Farmer’s Dog is not your classic boozer.

The Farmer’s Dog is “about 10 miles south of Diddly Squat Farm” near the A40. One Daily Express reporter recently visited the pub and was left astounded by what he saw, before he’d even had the chance to sit down and eat his food.

Steffan Rhys explained: “I was expecting it to be busy, but I wasn’t expecting this. It was bigger than some music festivals.”

He described the premises as having “full blown security” and a “parking operation” to help guide people arriving, and said the field was “enormous” with “hundreds, if not thousands of cars parked.”

“Visitors streamed like ants in formation between car park and pub and the stunned: “Bloody hell!” I heard from a fellow visitor pretty much sums up what I was thinking too.”

He reported that the place is “not your average local pub for Sunday lunch” as stewards wore neon jackets to direct punters to a parking spot before making their way to the pub.

According to the reporter, the queue was filled with “dozens of people” who didn’t have a reservation, eager for a chance to grab some food at Clarkson’s famous pub.

On the premises is a “large shop, outdoor bar and huge beer garden,” with “wooden benches” dotted around. Pub-goers can also sip on the Top Gear host’s Hawkstone Beer while they wait.

According to Rhys, Clarkson is flogging lager, stout, IPA, cider, jam, marmalade, honey and candles in the farm shop, along with branded merchandise and a fully kitted-out butcher. Honey reportedly sells for an eye-watering £12 per jar.

The Farmer’s Dog’s menu features a wide array of choices for every palate, including smoked trout or soup of the day to start, with the option of beef or pork for a Sunday roast complete with spuds, carrots, parsnips, cabbage, Yorkshire puds, gravy and cauliflower cheese.

For those feeling particularly hungry, extra cauliflower cheese, Yorkies and potatoes are available for a fee, along with honey and mustard chipolata sausages.

Rhys gave a verdict on his Sunday roast and gushed: “This one was generous, tasty and largely faultless.”

If by some miracle you have any room left, berry pudding, Eton mess, rhubarb crumble cake or ice cream and sorbet are on the menu to satisfy your sweet tooth. A cheese board is available as a savoury option.
