If you’ve ever dreamed of stepping into a real-life game of Mario Kart – we’ve found the ultimate turbo-charged adventure that’ll send you spinning with joy.

Housed inside a darkened BattleKart warehouse in St Albans, the arena transforms into a real-life Rainbow Road, minus the risk of falling into space. Using projection-mapped floors and electric karts, it blends the rush of go-karting with the magic of a classic arcade game.

But instead of just racing around a track, you’re dodging virtual missiles, activating shields, and dropping oil slicks to mess with your opponents. And yes, it’s every bit as Luigi-level chaotic as it sounds.

The moment you hop into your electric kart, the room transforms into a fully immersive gaming arena. Giant animations light up the track, and suddenly you’re zipping around collecting power-ups, boosting past rivals, or frantically trying to avoid getting zapped.

There are multiple game modes to choose from which include; BattleRace, BattleColour, BattleSnake, Virus, and even a digital version of football with karts.

BattleRace was a personal favourite of mine, as there’s something deeply satisfying about taking the lead and lobbing virtual rockets at your pals.

The games are around 15 minutes each, which doesn’t sound long but when you’re gripping the wheel, dodging hazards, and laughing hysterically, it’s the perfect amount of time before your next round.

It was harder work than it looked – but incredibly fun!(Image: Daily Star)

The venue has a chill-out area with a bar, snacks, drinks and is suitable for anyone over 1.45m tall, making it great for older kids, teens, and adults alike. Whether you’re looking for a fun family outing, a chaotic date night, or trying to outdrive Karen from accounts at your next work social, BattleKart hits the sweet spot between novelty and flat-out fun.

In short, BattleKart St Albans is a mash-up of speed, strategy, and pure silliness. One race in and you’ll be plotting your return, because once you’ve battled on this glowing digital track, you’ll want to return for some more Super Mario-esque fun.
