James Whale’s wife Nadine Talbot-Brown has shared an emotional update on her ailing husband as the veteran broadcaster has been given just weeks to live
James Whale’s wife, Nadine Talbot-Brown, has shared a heart-rending update on her husband’s health while expressing gratitude for the continuous support from fans.
The Daily Express columnist, who has been battling lung cancer for the past five years and dealing with 20 tumours throughout his body including in his spine, brain, and lungs, was recently given the devastating prognosis of having just weeks left to live.
In an emotional new post, Nadine thanked James’ fans and listeners, who have followed him since he began his radio career in the 1980s.
Nadine, who tied the knot with James in 2021, penned: “I would like to thank all of his friends here on X and all of his wonderful listeners and viewers for tuning in over the last 50 years. We have both been deeply moved by the lovely messages. Au revoir and thank you all x.”
This message prompted a flood of supportive responses from James’ followers, expressing their appreciation for the radio personality as he approaches the end of his life.
One fan wrote: “He is the best. A pioneer. A gamechanger. Master of his craft. And a thoroughly decent bloke through and through. Thank you for everything Mr Whale,” reports the Express.
Another said: “While you are still with us James ..just want you to know how much you are appreciated for all the entertainment you have given myself and many others. Thank you.. God Bless!!”
A third added: “I loved listening to his Night Owls show on Metro Radio when I was a kid. Wishing you both and your family all the best.”
A fourth fan agreed, saying: “What a brave couple you both are. Sharing your vulnerability with us has been an incredible act of courage and love. Our love, thoughts and prayers will never be enough but is all we have. Thank you both.”
It was recently revealed that James has relocated to a hospice near his home in Kent.
Speaking to the Express, James shared: “I’m comfortable and they’re looking after me brilliantly,” adding, “Obviously I feel very sad, especially for Nadine and my family. I wish I could talk better so I could do another show. I’d like to do one more podcast if possible. But I’m very breathless and it’s difficult to talk.”
The cancer, combined with his pain medication, has left James short of breath and affected his distinctive voice, which has been a familiar sound to listeners throughout his 52-year broadcasting career.
Throughout their journey, James and Nadine have shown remarkable resilience and humour, using their platform to share insights and guidance with others affected by cancer through Tales of the Whales.
James also expressed his longing to be with their dogs and his determination to continue writing his Monday column for the Daily Express for as long as he is able to.
