Jamie Lee Curtis ‘bodyshamed into getting surgery’ after cruel Hollywood insults

Hollywood star Jamie Lee Curtis has opened up on the moment a filmmaker’s cruel body-shaming comments left her turning to plastic surgery aged just 25

Jamie Lee Curtis has opened up about her experience with bodyshaming in Hollywood.

The Oscar winner recently explained how a nasty remark from a filmmaker drove her to plastic surgery at just 25 years old.

In a revealing chat with America’s 60 Minutes, Curtis shared the incident on the set of the 1985 flick Perfect that permanently altered her body image and career trajectory.

“He was like: ‘Yeah, I’m not shooting her today. Her eyes are baggy.’ And I was 25, so for him to say that, it was very embarrassing,” Curtis recounted. “So as soon as the movie finished, I ended up having some plastic surgery.”

The film, helmed by James Bridges with John Travolta co-starring, saw Curtis take on the role of an aerobics teacher alongside Travolta’s investigative reporter character.

Curtis confessed that the surgery itself and its aftermath were far from positive experiences, reports the Mirror.

“That’s just not what you want to do when you’re 25 or 26. I regretted it immediately and have kind of regretted it since.”

From cosmetic operations, she found herself slipping into the grasp of painkiller addiction: “I became very enamoured with the warm bath of an opiate,” Curtis said, recalling her struggle.

“You know, drank a little bit, never to excess, never any big public demonstrations. I was very quiet, very private about it, but it became a dependency for sure.”

Her battle with addiction would shadow her for years. In 2021, Curtis opened up in an interview with Fast Company about how surgery led her down the path of Vicodin dependency: “I tried plastic surgery and it didn’t work. It got me addicted to Vicodin,” she admitted. “I’m 22 years sober now.”

Curtis has since become an outspoken advocate for body positivity and a fierce critic of society’s obsession with altered looks.

“I’ve become a really public advocate to say to women: ‘You’re gorgeous and you’re perfect the way you are.’ So yeah, it was not a good thing for me to do,” she declared. She also condemned the prevailing trends in cosmetic enhancements and social media filters.”
