Jeremy Clarkson has boasted about the helicopter landing pad that he’s getting in his garden in his latest A-Level results post, which has delighted some social media users, and annoyed others. The Top Gear star took to social media just as students across England, Wales and Northern Ireland opened their A-Level results this morning.

While the significant day excites students, who can say goodbye to college and sixth-form, posing new opportunities on the horizon, it can be extremely nerve-wracking. Many have been left devastated after not getting the results they were expecting. In turn this can affect higher education and job offers and put a dampener on the long hours of hard work and studying.

In a bid to reassure people getting their results today, Clarkson has become well known for his annual tweets when A Level and GCSE results days come around. The 65-year-old star of Amazon Prime’s Clarkson’s Farm isn’t shy about not doing well in his school examinations. However, he likes to point out his life has turned about pretty great regardless.

In a post on X at 8.11am this morning [August 14], Jeremy said: “If your A level results are disappointing, don’t worry. I got a C and two Us and here I am today, installing lights for a helicopter landing pad in my garden.”

Clarkson’s long-standing A-Level results day tweets date back as far as 2014. Many students have sought comfort in them in recent years on the nerve-wracking day.

Commenting on the post, one individual said: “Every year without fail this makes me laugh.” “Been waiting for this,” added another.

“Always love this time of year,” added another. One commented: “Like clock work! But good message! There are different type of talents and formal education doesn’t capture all.”

However some appear to be fed up of him repeating the same message ever year, while others noted that Jeremy didn’t come from humble beginnings.

His parents, Shirley and Eddie Clarkson, were able to build a family fortune through their business, Gabrielle Designs, which produced Paddington Bear stuffed toys. In turn Jeremy was able to attend private school.

“Same joke for about a decade now,” said one in the comments. One other said: “Hardly born into poverty in the first place, squire. you were never really going to struggle.”

One other pointed out: “Oh Jeremy I know you don’t know any different but that’s not how it works for most people. Luck is an element often underestimated.”

Another wrote: “Congratulations, Jeremy! But don’t forget that a helicopter represents academic excellence, just like your supercars do. Let’s encourage academic excellence, which gives society all the skills it needs to survive.”

Another noted: “It was a different time back then, but the moral of the story stands. The fact is, the majority of high achievers in school end up doing pretty average jobs making a tiny bit more than the average person but still having more debt.”

Clarkson’s post comes as the number of students accepted on to UK degree courses has risen to a record high year – up 3.1 per cent.
