JoJo Siwa may be raising eyebrows in the Celebrity Big Brother house thanks to her blossoming friendship with Chris Hughes, but a former co-star has said the icon will benefit
One of JoJo Siwa ‘s Dance Moms co-stars is “proud” of the Celebrity Big Brother star.
JoJo, 21, is currently causing a stir both in and out of the house due to her questionable friendship with Love Island star Chris Hughes, including one cringe moment where he revealed she had “turned him on”. However, fans have been glued to their screens as JoJo and Chris’ friendship continues to develop, including their first tiff.
But while fans of the show have been left bemused by JoJo’s erratic behaviour, one of her Dance Moms co-stars has been doting over her success. Speaking to GB News, the main star of the show – Abby Lee Miller – has said she is thrilled that JoJo is doing so well in the house.
“I just know that Jojo is a good competitor,” Abby said of her former pupil. “She likes to compete and she’s going to be great at the challenges, whether they’re physical or mental or if she has to sing or dance or act, she’s going to be good.”
JoJo got her big break in TV when she starred in Dance Moms, which focused on Abby’s dance academy, titled Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition. Aged just nine, she immediately cemented herself as one of the main stars of the show for her bright and bold personality.
Recalling her journey to success, Abby continued: “She was not quiet, she was feisty, she had charisma, she was precious and adorable. Her face, you looked at her and you just thought she was this angel, and then she opened her mouth.”
Abby went on to describe JoJo as “a very charismatic, intense and strong dancer”, who did her best to perform despite the pressure from her mother and those around her. After leaving the show, Abby and JoJo kept in touch, revealing she would speak to the Karma singer around once a week, adding: “I’m so proud of her.”
When asked about JoJo’s career prospects, Abby was certain that the Yesterday’s Tomorrow’s Today singer would only just be getting started with her career. “She’s going to be a pop star,” Abby insisted, “any time I’m asked about JoJo and her music, I always say that kid is laughing all the way to the bank.”
It comes after JoJo revealed she felt she was not abused or taken advantage of during her time on Dance Moms. Hours before going into the house, JoJo explained that she was able to cope with the pressure of the dance studio and that she never felt she was being exploited for the sake of the show.
Abby, who herself became a controversial figure on the show due to her feisty attitude, backed JoJo’s claims, saying what was depicted in the show was her normal job. She also praised JoJo for capitalising on her success from the show.
“It wasn’t about performing for the cameras, because to me, they weren’t even there; it was my day-to-day job,” she recounted. “I was trying to get these kids just able to step on stage and make themselves look good and make me look good because it was my name out there that they were representing.
“She started as a little kid doing this cute little boomerang song and she had over a billion views on it,” the star added. “From there, it’s just gone up and up; a lot of those people that are her super fans right now, me included, they knew her as a little kid, and they’ve grown up with her.”
Celebrity Big Brother airs every Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
