Laura Whitmore sparks fury with BBC bosses after backing out of show days before filming

Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore has reportedly left BBC bosses ‘infuriated’ and ‘in an awkward position’ after she pulled out of a major TV show at the last minute

Former Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore allegedly pulled out of the BBC’s upcoming Celebrity Apprentice special just days before filming was due to kick off, causing chaos for the production crew.

The special was set to celebrate two-decades of The Apprentice, with celebrities battling it out in business challenges under the watchful eye of Lord Alan Sugar.

A few famous faces joining the show were announced last week, according to The Mirror. The names include The One Show’s Angela Scanlon and Tom Skinner, a pillow and bed salesman who appeared on the show in 2019.

But it seems Irish telly star Laura won’t be part of the line-up. It’s believed she’s cause chaos at the broadcaster after dropping out of the star-studded version of the long-running show at the last minute.

A TV source told MailOnline: “Laura infuriated BBC bosses by pulling out of the Celebrity Apprentice special. Of course, there can be a lot of last-minute changes in television, but it was just days before filming started and the team were very much left in the lurch. The dates did not work for Laura and so she backed out, but many were left in an awkward position by her decision.”

The Daily Star has reached out to Laura’s reps and the BBC for comment.

While the full roster of celebrities for the festive charity special is yet to be officially unveiled, it’s rumoured that ex-EastEnders star Jake Wood and Rob Rinder have already signed on the dotted line.

This edition marks the first star version in six years, all in honour of the show’s landmark anniversary, reports the Mirror.

It’s believed the 10 celebs taking part will head to Lapland in Finland, where they’ll be tasked with helping Santa and his elves whip up a Christmas best-seller.

A source revealed: “Lord Sugar will be sending them to Lapland to get a brief from Santa. Hiring for the one-off is underway – and there will be the usual firing that we love the show for.”

The charity special is set to air later this year.

Although details on the special remain under wraps, Lord Sugar said: “There has been talk of it. They’re quite fun, we all do it for charity. I’m quite open about who gets to take part, as long as the production team don’t choose Boris Johnson.”

The last special in 2019 saw comedians Omid Djalili and Russell Kane, interior design guru Kelly Hoppen, and EastEnders star Tameka Empson take the stage. The girls’ team clinched victory in the 48-hour cabaret night challenge, thanks to Loose Women’s Ayda Field bringing in her hubby Robbie Williams.

The Apprentice is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
