The “Richard Madeley lookalike contest” took place today in Stockport, Greater Manchester, and an unexpected winner walked away with the prize, leaving on-lookers baffled.

Look-alike competitions have been taking the internet by the storm lately. The original lookalike competition that went viral happened in New York back in October 2024, where Timothée Chalamet lookalikes responded to an online invite by YouTuber Anthony Po. He promised a life-changing $50 (£39) prize for the winner and ended up attracting thousands of RSVPs, who all assembled in Washington Square Park – and even the star himself turned up.

Since then, lookalike competitions have gone global, and now it’s reached Stockport, where locals were baffled by the mystery of flyers advertising the “Richard Madeley lookalike contest” on August 17 and the whole event surrounded with subject of speculation across social media.
