Loose Women star issues brave health update after worrying hospital dash

Former Loose Women star Andrea McLean has taken to social media to update her fans, telling them she is still on the road to recovery after being hospitalised earlier this year

Former Loose Women star Andrea McLean has bravely shared her health woes after a severe case of pneumonia hit her hard earlier this year.

The 55-year-old took to Instagram to share that she’s been on a wellness retreat in Turkey, aiming to kickstart her recovery, but admitted she’s still feeling “slow”.

In an intimate video message to her fans, Andrea opened up about how the start of the year was tough, confessing it “really set her back quite a bit”.

She explained: “For those of you who don’t know, it was basically I was hospitalised with pneumonia and kidney issues and all kinds of stuff. I’ve been really wanting to get back into wellness and fitness, but it has been a crawl rather than a walk or a run.”

Andrea captioned her Instagram video post: “My journey back to wellness is proving to be slow and bumpy. So when I was invited to come along to a Wellness week in Turkey, to train alongside incredible Olympic athletes and world class dancers, I said it sounds amazing…. BUT please know I can’t keep up. I am slow now. I may fall down. I was nervous”, reports the Mirror.

She continued: “And it’s been wonderful. I have gone at my own pace. I’ve accepted that right now I can’t do what I used to. And yes, I had to lay down for the rest of the day because I had too much fun doing a dance class and forgot to take it easy.

“But it was all ok. No pressure. No worries. I have done the morning walk – not the run. I have done stretching and yoga. I’ve had a massage. And I have met some of the most wonderful people.”

The ex-ITV celeb opened up in March about her battle with severe pneumonia, acute kidney injury, and sepsis after undergoing a battery of tests, as reported by the Express.

She recounted the terrifying ordeal of collapsing in her home and spending an hour on the bathroom floor before her hubby found her.

Andrea reminisced about the scary moment, sharing: “I got up to go to the bathroom and just fell to the floor. By the time the paramedics arrived, they said my blood pressure was so low they had to stabilise me before moving me.”

With the tricky bend in their loft bedroom, the medics had a tough time getting the stretcher around. She finally managed to shimmy down the stairs and was whisked away to hospital.

The subsequent weeks were life-changing for her.

She stressed: “There are rarely second chances in this life, so as I began to regain my strength I knew I had to seize the day and focus on what I really want to do. I very nearly died.”
