Love Island star Jack Fincham has opened up on his battle with bulimia for the first time, after struggling with the eating disorder for almost two decades
Love Island champ Jack Fincham has bravely opened up about his secret battle with bulimia in a candid interview.
The 34 year old telly favourite, who shot to fame after bagging the Love Island crown in 2018 alongside former flame Dani Dyer, daughter of EastEnders star Danny Dyer, has laid bare his near two-decade fight with the eating disorder.
Jack confessed that it took him years to acknowledge he had a serious “problem” with bulimia, which began when he was just 14 and started boxing, feeling the squeeze to hit his fighting weight.
In an emotional reveal to The Sun on Sunday, Jack said: “I have been a bulimic for 19 years, bingeing on food and then being sick.”
He detailed his secret ritual: “I’d eat it all, then go to the downstairs toilet at my mum’s – because nobody could hear me, as it was in the hall, next to the front door. I know it’s gross, but for years I didn’t actually think I had a problem.”
Jack described how he would use his illness to “punish” himself after losing a bout, leading to feelings of worthlessness and cycles of overeating followed by purging, sometimes up to “five days a week”.
Now, the reality star is tackling his condition head-on, taking daily meds to ease the acid reflux pain caused by years of bulimic behaviour, reports OK!.
Jack reflected on the damage done, saying: “I didn’t realise the harm I was doing to my body – that any nutrients I’d eaten from decent food was being thrown up along with the c**p I had gorged on,”.
Jack’s struggles with reflux intensified in 2024 after he started using weight loss injections to rapidly achieve his target weight for an upcoming boxing match. The £130-per-injection treatment resulted in a 10kg weight loss over two months, leaving him looking “physically shocking”, as he described it.
Although he has since discontinued the injections, Jack aims to address his “unhealthy relationship with food” in order to become a “brilliant, well-fuelled, healthy boxer”.
Since rising to fame in 2018, Jack has been candid about his personal struggles, including his battles with addiction to substances, alcohol, and gambling.
In a February appearance on This Morning, Jack shared that he had maintained sobriety since Christmas Day, expressing his desire to make a lasting change.
Love Island is available to stream on ITVX.
