IT might be June but Mariah Carey could yet sprinkle some Christmas cheer on London this weekend.

The iconic diva tops the bill at the Capital Summertime Ball on Sunday and host Sian Welby admits they will be asking her to get a big festive despite the forecasted heatwave.

Sian told the Daily Star ahead of the event: “We always get Mariah out of Christmas and defrost her, and this is what we’re trying to do at the weekend. We really want her to do the Christmas song at the Ball, even in 25 degrees because we think it’ll be hilarious.”

Mariah has reputation for being the ultimate diva but Sian is ready for anything: “I’ve not had any demands yet. They say no news is good news!

“You hear a lot of rumours – there’s a light that follows her around to get her best angle or will she demand a certain type of chair? I will only find out on the day, We’re just praying we get to meet her.”

Mariah is one of the biggest names the Summertime Ball has ever attracted and even seasoned presenter Sian was shocked when she saw the line-up.

“Like genuinely, I’ve always enjoyed the Summertime Ball, but my jaw dropped when I saw it was Will Smith AND Mariah, I genuinely couldn’t believe it. And – combined with the new artists – for your money to get 18 superstars in one building, it’s quite mind blowing.”

Will Smith – who performed at London’s King Cross Station on Thursday with Rita Ora – is a bit of controversial figure since THAT Oscars slapgate, but Sian believes pop fans will have no problem Gettin’ Jiggy with him at Wembley.

“I think that the British public are going to welcome him with open arms just see him for the legend that he has been for so many years,” said Sian. “Yes he’s had some negative press and done some things that nobody would endorse. However, I don’t like cancel culture and I don’t think we should all be judged on one thing that we’ve done. He’s had a pretty squeaky clean career for a long, long time and he’s someone that I grew up with as the Fresh Prince and Men In Black.

“I think maybe it is a bit of a redemption story, but we are allowed to forgive people and then people are allowed to make mistakes and move on and I think he’s going to put on one hell of a show.”

Another emotional performance on Sunday will be Jessie J who recently revealed the Summertime Ball will be her last performance before she takes a break to tackle cancer.

“She’s clearly a very, very strong person,” said Sian. “I really admire her. I think the more celebs like this talk about health issues and share it is important. She can be at Wembley and she can have cancer and the two don’t have to exist separately. I’s a really powerful message.”
