‘Nervous’ James Corden tells theatre fans they may see him naked if they watch his play

Gavin and Stacey star James Corden is heading back to Broadway for a new show, but admits he is nervous about the performance after his director is known for cast getting their kits off

James Corden is promising fans an eyeful on his return to Broadway – joking that audiences may get to see him nude.

Corden revealed that his role in the play Art is being directed by Scott Ellis, who famously had his male cast strip naked for the theatre hit Take Me Out.

The Gavin And Stacey star will appear alongside Bobby Cannavale and Neil Patrick Harris when it opens later this month.

Corden said: “Puppetry of the penis is a big reference for us. An inspiration. That is what we are doing.”

Harris said he hopes that Ellis will get his cast to repeat the Take Me Out move.

Some theatre-goers may get to see a lot more of James Corden

He admitted: “We keep pitching the same idea. He didn’t like it and said he is not a one trick pony.

“And we said well, speaking of ponies – let me show you this.”

During a promo for Art at the 92Y Talks event in New York, Corden admitted he is terrified about returning to Broadway – even though he won a Tony for his work on One Man Two Guvnors.

He said: “I am terrified by this entire experience.

“I have woken up every single morning sweating thinking about this speech I have in the middle of the play. I go to sleep listening to a recording of it.

“You can ask my wife and son it is painful, my nerves for this entire experience. But I could not be more excited about doing it.

“Pretty much every day I wish I was playing one of the other two parts. I can’t tell you how much. I dunno. It is killing me man.”
