Netflix fans switch off as they brand Meghan Markle lifestyle series ‘fake’

Meghan Markle’s new Netflix show, titled With Love, Meghan, was released on the platform Tuesday – but TV lovers have already urged for the series to be axed

Netflix users have been candid in their reviews of Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan – and they’ve not minced their words. In the show, 43-year-old Meghan combines practical advice with open chats with friends, both old and new.

Meghan, who recently shared the special meaning behind her family’s new surname, also offers personal tips and tricks, prioritising fun over flawlessness, and demonstrating how simple it can be to create beauty, even when it’s unexpected. However viewers might not want to follow her advice on everything, as she was recently banned from selling clothes.

Labelled as “lifestyle programming”, With Love, Meghan was initially set to debut on the platform on January 15.

However, due to the wildfires in Los Angeles, Meghan decided to postpone the series, which is now available to stream from today (March 4). In a statement released to Tudum, Netflix’s media platform, the Duchess of Sussex commented on the delay: “I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.”

Following its Netflix debut, numerous TV enthusiasts have dismissed the series as “nonsense” after watching the first episode. Some have even suggested that Prince Harry’s wife is attempting to emulate a “housewife” and is trying to mirror “Martha Stewart” by portraying herself as a homemaker, reports the Mirror.

During a fiery segment on GB News, veteran broadcaster Carole Malone, 70, didn’t hold back her thoughts on Meghan Markle’s latest venture. Carole blasted: “People do need to have a go at Meghan. I’m not interested in it – she’s not a housewife, she’s not Martha Stewart. Martha is obsessed with and always has been obsessed with housekeeping, gardening, cooking – Meghan hasn’t.”

She continued to slam the Duchess, suggesting Meghan’s new image is just a commercial strategy. “I just think this is all nonsense. But I love the fact that when Kate went to Wales on a visit, she gave her recipe for plum jam away for free, while Meghan’s trying to make a shed load of money out of hers. I would like to think Kate did that on purpose, just to have a go at Meghan.”

In the same vein, former Tory MP Sir Jake Berry also weighed in on Meghan’s Netflix show during his appearance on GB News. He critiqued the show’s portrayal of family life, claiming it sets an unattainable standard.

Sir Jake remarked: “There was a behind the scenes shot where Meghan saying, this is what it’s like to be a normal mum, and she’d sort of lined up freshly cut fruit on a plate in a rainbow with all the same coloured fruits.

“I’ve got three kids, that’s not my experience of feeding the Berry tribe. It’s just, get it on a plate, put it in front of them, eat your dinner. We don’t have music in the background, we’re not all wearing matching beige outfits. It is not the real world,” he added. Meanwhile, viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to air their views.

One ranted: “I’m not even 30 seconds into the first episode and I already know that With Love, Meghan is the fakest stuff ever.”

Another chimed in: “Six minutes of With Love, Meghan… ok only for richest people… so… bye bye.” And another quipped: “All of Meghan Markle’s ‘recipes’ can be found on Pinterest.”

Yet, some fans were loving the show, with one enthusing: “I’m watching With Love, Meghan and it’s delightful. I will never understand the people whose entire personalities are hating her. It’s sickening.”

Another concurred: “People just love to hate Meghan for no reason and are constantly putting her up against Kate. They are two different people. Let the woman live.”
