New Rambo actor confirmed as Sylvester Stallone’s ‘first choice’ snubbed

The new face of Rambo has been confirmed – and it’s not who Sylvester Stallone wanted to take over the role. A prequel film, John Rambo, is in the works after Sly’s last outing as the character in 2019 film Last Blood. It’s believed that the Hollywood great is not involved, but knows of the film.

The prequel was confirmed earlier this year, and it’s now been announced that Netflix star Noah Centineo, 29, will be taking over the role. Given that it is a prequel, a younger actor is to be expected, but Sylvester had his eye on someone else.

Speaking on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show last year, the 79-year-old championed Ryan Gosling.

He said: “I met him at a dinner and obviously we’re opposites. He’s good-looking — I’m not. That’s how it works.

“But he goes, ‘I was fascinated by Rambo, and I used to go to school dressed as Rambo and people would chase me away and I still didn’t stop.’

“He just kept saying that he had a lot of affiliation with Rambo, and I thought, this is interesting. If I ever pass the baton, I’ll pass it on to him because he loves the character.”

Sylvester previously said he would return to the franchise for a sixth film and even had an idea for the plot.

Speaking in Cannes in 2019, he said he wanted to take the character back to the Native American reservation where he had grown up.

It’s not clear what the new movie, set to start filming in 2026, will include, but it is a prequel to 1982’s First Blood.

Noah is a former Disney Channel star, having appeared in Austin & Ally, before gaining popularity as a main character on drama The Fosters.

He then blew up with a younger audience when he landed a role in Netflix’s romance franchise To All The Boys, Sierra Burgess Is A Loser, and The Perfect Date.

Noah has also appeared on Netflix’s spy-adventure series The Recruit, and in the DC movie universe in Black Adam in 2022.

The star has been linked to a number of famous faces romantically.

He dated model Alexis Ren between March 2019 and April 2020, and then was linked to Kylie Jenner’s close friend Stassie Karanikolaou.
