A top psychology professor has warned that the Post Oasis Blues will hit people hard after so many flocked to see their heroes at their sensational comeback gigs
Oasis fans are suffering from a massive emotional comedown after seeing their heroes. A top boffin has said the phenomenon – dubbed the Post Oasis Blues (POB) – is rife around Britain.
Hundreds of thousands of punters flocked to the must-see reunion gigs this summer, their first shows for 16 years after Liam and Noel Gallagher patched things up.
John McAlaney, a professor of psychology at Bournemouth University, said: “Post Oasis Blues appear to be a real thing.
“People who go to these momentous, one-off events are unable to maintain the huge high they experience and have to come back to the reality of getting up and going to work.
“The sharing of memories and photos and videos on social media of these events amplifies the feeling of sadness and regret that it is over.
“It is only natural for people to want to repeat that positive experience again.”
For many gig-goers it was a first chance to see them perform.
Experts said the feeling of elation and euphoria is quickly followed by a period of sadness and depression that it is over.
Hundreds of fans of music lovers have taken to social media to share their experiences.
Abbie Brisland said: “Oasis blues are so real… not thought or spoke about anything else since.
“Where do we go from here, can’t live a normal life now.”
Meanwhile, Helen Glenwright commented: “Please tell me Oasis blues is an actual thing? I’m a 50 year old woman and I can’t listen to Champagne Supernova now without blubbering,”
And Emma Young said: “How do people cope with the Oasis Blues? I thought people were joking when they said they have it.
“All I do is talk about them, think about the magical night. I need to go again.”
The feeling is so bad that some are shelling out for tickets for the return concerts at Wembley next month.
Martin Foster added: “Went to Edinburgh night two. The depression was severe for 4 days. Couldn’t hack it anymore so bought 2 standing tickets for last show at Wembley.”
The news comes after we reported how Noel Gallagher has confessed he feels “proud” of his brother Liam and that he’d forgotten just how “funny” he was. After their triumphant return to Ireland at the weekend with two packed shows at Dublin’s Croke Park, the Britpop legend spoke candidly about their Oasis Live ’25 reunion tour, saying he’s been “completely blown away” by the reaction. The tour is going strong, despite earlier data suggesting a whopping 45% of fans thought the brothers would fall out again and cancel it.
Oasis announced their comeback tour in August last year, 15 years after their explosive break up in 2009, when Noel walked away from the band following a backstage bust-up at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, declaring he “simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer”.
Chatting to talkSport’s Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent, he said: “Liam’s smashing it. I’m proud of him.
