Some 70,000 fans were inside the venue’s perimeter for the huge comeback gig, but some ticketless fans were also able to enjoy the concert for free as they found a handy spot elsewhere in the park
Ticketless Oasis fans have taken over a patch of Heaton Park dubbed ‘Gallagher Hill’ — and enjoyed their own free ‘karaoke’ concert.
Video on social media shows fans singing along to the band’s tunes as they can just about catch a glimpse of the concert on huge screens in the Manchester beauty spot.
One X user shared a video of fans singing the band’s hit Cigarettes and Alcohol and quipped: “Henman hill? Welcome to Gallagher Hill.”
Other footage shows a crowd that had gathered gathered singing along to Supersonic from an elevated spot in the park outside the gig’s perimeter fence.
An X user replied telling them: “You’re having the best time also there, enjoy it.” Another said: “Great idea, and free too.” A third said: “A free show, happy days.”
As the gig went on, more ticketless fans joined the Alfresco singalong, with streams of people pouring into the streets around the park seen in another clip joining a chorus of Champagne Supernova.
Meanwhile, those living nearby the park in leafy Prestwich have told how the mammoth homecoming gigs sounds like “one massive karaoke” night in their back gardens.
Journalist Angela Epstein said in a video posted to X: “Oasis concert in Heaton Park sounds like one massive karaoke night,” adding: “The noise is really, really loud, you can really hear the concert. Sounds like Liam is singing his heart out, as are the crowd.”
In an earlier video, she told followers: “I can hear every note of the Oasis concert from my back garden and I didn’t pay a penny. They’re singing Hello and the crowd are going nuts.”
She’d earlier appealed to fans to take their rubbish home, tweeting: “Sorry to be such a bore but message to Oasis fans. Welcome to my corner of Manchester. But please pick up your bloody litter. Otherwise, enjoy!”
Some 70,000 fans are thought to be side the venue in the 600 acre park. But many without tickets also gathered at the nearby Ostrich pub, where the band’s setlist could be heard.
Concert organisers had earlier issued a warning to fans to take care amid yellow heat health warnings as Britain baked in the third heatwave of the summer.
Fans were urged to wear bucket hats, sun cream and stay hydrated as temperatures soared to almost 30C.
