The British pop sensation shocked his doppelganger by gate-crashing their gig at St Pancras station
Londoners were treated to a double dose of Olly Alexanders during an unexpected live busking performance. The British pop star surprised his lookalike by joining their gig at the busy St Pancras station in London, leading to an impromptu 30-minute performance for lucky commuters.
The tribute act, known as ‘Starstruck’ or Keith Marshall, usually performs at festivals and events across the UK. He was halfway through the famous Years & Years hit song ‘Desire’ during what he thought was a solo busking gig when the real Olly appeared on stage with him, doubling the fun for everyone who was watching.
Speaking about the spontaneous performance, singer and actor, Olly Alexander, said: “Why have one of something when you can have two? It was nice being able to perform with my wonderful doppelganger, Keith. I hope the crowd had as much fun as I did,” he added.
This comes as a study of 2,000 adults, commissioned by Twix to launch its new brand platform ‘Two is more than one’, revealed that two in five Brits are intrigued by doppelgangers, with 78% expressing a desire to meet their own.
The research also discovered that Gen Z would be most interested in having a doppelganger step in for them, followed by Millennials (66% vs 51% respectively). According to the study, the younger generation would use them to clean up after them and go to work for them to attend boring meetings.
The study also revealed that 37% of people have been mistaken for someone else in the past, with over half (53%) fascinated by the idea that there’s a lookalike of them somewhere out there.
Interestingly, nearly a quarter (24%) would utilise their double as an assistant rather than treating them as an equal. Over two-thirds would assign their doppelganger to handle household chores such as washing up and laundry, while 26% would dispatch theirs to social events they’d rather avoid, and 25% would have them wait in for deliveries.
Some would even use their double to dodge making small talk with individuals they’d prefer not to converse with, sift through lengthy contracts or terms and conditions, or do the grocery shopping.
The research, conducted via OnePoll, discovered that 55% feel they don’t have sufficient time to accomplish everything they need or want to do. This is attributed to a lack of hours in the day (48%), taking on too many responsibilities (34%), and unforeseen circumstances constantly arising (33%).
Consequently, if they had a clone, 49% believe their life would be at least twice as easy, almost half (47%) think they would achieve more if they had a double, while 34% reckon they would be much happier and less stressed.
Four out of ten reckon it would be a right laugh if they had a doppelganger to step into their shoes for a bit.
The latest brand campaign ‘Two is more than one,’ gives a nod to its iconic two bar serving – because Twix is all about doubling the goodness.
Lauren Godfrey, senior brand manager from Twix chimed in: “In a world where time is precious, having a clone would be the ultimate life hack. “While we may not have doubles of ourselves just yet, we’re pleased to have doubled the fun for many of the public today.
“It’s important to make time for little treats amongst the day to day.”
