Paddy McGuinness refused entry to BBC show without pass as he slams security

Paddy McGuinness wasn’t happy when the security outside his Radio 2 building didn’t recognise him.

The former Take Me Out host presents his own Radio 2 show every Sunday, but it seems like the security team for the building still don’t recognise him. The BBC star who was once married to Christine McGuinness was shocked at being refused entry to the Radio 2 building in Salford.

Unless he showed them his building pass and identification. Paddy went on a rant about the security team live on his radio show for not knowing who he was despite him working there for a year.

He told listeners: “How long have we been doing this show? It’s been over a year actually. I’m just wondering when security are gonna know it’s me. I’m not even bothered about them recognising me off the telly, or anything I’ve done throughout me career.

“Just the fact that I come in every Sunday for a year and a bloke still wouldn’t let me in this morning. ‘Have you got your pass?’ Pass? I said ‘See that yellow chopper there, son, with 10 million quid stuck on top of it? I did that. Ohhhhhh, come on security, play the game!”

Paddy, who still lives with ex Christine and their three children in Cheshire, started hosting his mid-morning show last year. Paddy and Christine announced their split in 2022.

The comedian reckons Take Me Out wouldn’t get commissioned these days as times have changed and certain jokes would get taken out of context.

He told the Table Manners podcast: “I think the way things are in the world now… we live in a very strange time where if you’re saying something jokey or something not serious or whatever, it gets taken out of context, put online, and there’s a spin on everything.

“I think Take Me Out, because it was so kind of pure, lovely, fun and on a Saturday night, and we had a laugh. That was of its time. I think if you did it now, there would be that many bl***y things going, ‘Oh, you can’t do that, you can’t say this’ and take things out of context.”

Despite his concerns, Paddy is still up for reviving the show. The star would love to return as host for new episodes. He said: “If they said, ‘Do you want to do two or three charity specials?’ I would be all over it.”

Paddy admits Take Me Out is one of the best shows he has done during his years on TV. He added: “It was a lovely thing to be a part of. We did it for 10 years and I have a lot of good memories.

“When I’m out and about now, kids come up to me and ask me about it, and I’m like, ‘Have you seen that?’ But it’s still repeated.”
