Filming on a revival could kick off within months in Birmingham, where the show used to be shot.

An insider said: “Discussions are taking place between the BBC, Netflix and producer Banijay UK.”

The news comes just weeks after Steven teased he was working on top-secret plans relating to the show.

He said: “I’m not allowed to announce it, but I’m just saying that the world of Peaky will continue.”

The announcement has had a mixed reaction from fans.

Many are excited about seeing a new series, but one said: “It’s gone as far as it can. Leave it be.”

Peaky Blinders originally ran for six series between 2013 and 2022.

It was a smash hit with ratings topping five million viewers and it scored a string of top awards.

After its run on TV ended, it was announced a film version was in the works.

It will see Cillian Murphy back as gangster Thomas Shelby alongside new cast members including Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan and Tim Roth.

Peaky Blinders also had a stage adaptation titled The Redemption of Tommy Shelby, which toured the country and was aired on TV.
