Peter Andre has addressed his age gap relationship with wife Emily MacDonagh, who is 16 years his junior, saying it ‘really works’ for them despite one awkward moment
Peter Andre has opened up about his relationship with wife Emily MacDonagh, who is 16 years his junior. The pair, who tied the knot in 2015 and have three children together; Amelia, Theo and Arabella, have always maintained that their age difference “works” for them.
In his weekly column for New! Magazine, the Mysterious Girl hitmaker, who recently told Daily Star all about his time on the Jafaican set, discussed their dynamic, joking that age is just a number. However, he did recall one amusing incident where their age gap was more noticeable.
In his column, Peter referenced 67-year-old Stephen Fry’s marriage to Elliott Spencer, who is 38. He wrote: “Actor Stephen Fry has talked about the 30-year age gap in his relationship with his partner, Elliott Spencer.”
He continued: “It all depends on the relationship, how the partners are with each other and how they view things, I think. There’s a 16-year gap between me and Emily, and it really works for us,” reports the Mirror.
However, the age difference isn’t always invisible, as Peter shared: “There’s one thing we do laugh about, though… We were at the Pride of Britain awards one year and Jon Bon Jovi came over to chat. I’ve met him many times over the years and he’s a lovely person.”
After introducing himself to Emily, she asked Peter: “Who was that?” Peter said he responded: “Are you serious? It’s Bon Jovi.” In her most innocent voice, Emily then asked: “What’s a Bon Jovi?”
He went on: “We laughed about that a lot afterwards! It’s in those moments we may realise the age gap – usually with music and films – but in general, we love the same things. I think it’s what works for you in a relationship. Who are we to judge?”
The pair first crossed paths when she was 20 and Peter 36, but sparks didn’t fly until two years later. They were brought together by Emily’s father, Dr Ruaraidh MacDonagh, a top consultant urologist.
Peter was in need of kidney stone removal surgery back in 2010, which was performed by Ruaraidh, leading him to meet Emily, who was then a medical student.
Their romance kicked off in 2012 and they tied the knot three years on in a stunning ceremony at Mamhead House and Castle in Devon.
Now proud parents to three children, with Emily also being a step-mum to Peter’s kids Junior and Princess, the family opts to keep their youngest out of the social media spotlight, maintaining a relatively private presence online.
