Priscilla Pointer, who starred in films including Carrie and TV series Dallas, has sadly died at the age of 100, her family have confirmed in a touching social media post
American starlet Priscilla Pointer has sadly passed away at the grand age of 100, her grieving son confirmed. The Dallas and Carrie actress drew her last breath “peacefully in her sleep” at an assisted living facility.
Taking to Instagram with a heartfelt tribute, her family penned: “Priscilla Pointer, acclaimed stage television and film actress, and mother of David, Katie, and Amy Irving, died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 100, hopefully to run off with her 2 adoring husbands and her many dogs. She most definitely will be missed.”
Just shy of hitting another impressive life marker, the Honeysuckle Rose sensation was almost about to celebrate turning 101 on May 18 later this year.

Pointer’s illustrious career kicked off onstage in the swinging ’40s where she dazzled in touring productions such as A Streetcar Named Desire, The Country Wife, and The Condemned of Altona. Her silver screen debut came crashing in with the 1976 cult classic horror flick Carrie, portraying Eleanor Snell.
In an uncanny twist of art imitating life, Priscilla starred alongside her daughter Amy Irving in Carrie, with Amy taking on the character of Sue Snell. Mother and daughter not only shared the screen but portrayed parent and child in the terror-filled movie, reports the Mirror.
Priscilla’s talents graced screens big and small in an array of memorable roles, with performances in blockbusters like Twilight Zone: The Movie, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, Blue Velvet, Inferno, and Mommie Dearest.
She is perhaps best remembered for her portrayal of Rebecca Barnes Wentworth in the American soap opera Dallas, a role she held from 1981 to 1983. Priscilla went on to appear in other notable shows such as The Flash, L.A. Law, ER, and Cold Case, with her final on-screen appearance being in the TV film Sweet Nothing in My Ear.
In her personal life, Priscilla was married twice, first to American director Jules Irving from 1947 until his passing in 1979, with whom she had three children, including director David Irving and Oscar nominee Amy Irving. This made her the mother-in-law of renowned director Steven Spielberg during his marriage to Amy from 1985 to 1989.
Following Jules’ death, Priscilla married actor Robert Symonds in 1980, and he passed away in 2007 at the age of 80 due to complications from prostate cancer.
Tributes have been pouring in on social media for the late Carrie star, with one fan writing: “RIP Priscilla Pointer, 100. Amy Irving’s mom damn near stole the un-stealable “Carrie” with this one.” Another fan tweeted: “May Actress Priscilla Pointer rest in peace and my condolences to Amy Irving and to their entire family.”
A third fan added: “RIP the great Priscilla Pointer (aged 100! ). Forty four Dallas appearances, three Barnaby Jones, two Cannon, one Harry O, one Rockford Files, one Kojak, one Police Woman, one McCloud, a handful of great TV movies = a small part of the industry of human happiness.”
