Sam Gardiner, known for his stint on Race Across The World, tragically lost his life in a car crash last week, and his final poignant social media post has now come to light.

Greater Manchester Police reported that the 24-year-old, who graced our screens on the popular BBC programme in 2019, was involved in a fatal accident on the A34 on Monday, 26 May, when his vehicle veered off the road and overturned, coming to rest on its side.

Sam, who had a background as a landscape gardener, participated in the BBC travel series with his mum Jo. The pair embarked on an adventurous journey across South America in the show’s second series broadcasted in 2020.

Following his untimely death, Sam’s final Instagram update has surfaced, displaying a series of photos capturing him basking in the breathtaking scenery at Whithaven Beach in Australia. One image shows Sam strolling along the shore, encircled by the pristine waters, while another features him on a balcony, striking a pose beside two cockatoos.

His post was accompanied by the words: “This place needs to be on people’s bucket list, pure beauty,” reports the Mirror.

In the wake of the tragedy, Sam’s bereaved parents, Jo and Andrew, released a heartfelt tribute, painting a picture of Sam as ‘loyal, funny and fiercely protective’.

They continued to express their sorrow, stating: “Sam left us far too soon, and whilst words will never fully capture the light, joy and energy he brought into our lives, we hold on to the memories that made him so special.”

In the wake of the tragic news, a spokesperson for Race Across the World stated: “Everyone who worked with him and indeed everyone who watched Sam could see just how precious and transformative the trip was for both him and his mum, Jo.

“Sam embraced the seven-week trip with an energy, love and a determination that saw the pair enjoy adventures across Mexico to Argentina making audiences fall in love with them and their special bond as a result.

“Since filming, both Sam and Jo have been an integral part of the Race Across the World cast family and on behalf of us all from the BBC, production and the rest of the cast, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to his parents, Andrew and Jo; his brothers, William and Charlie; his step mum Justine; his family and friends.”
