Late broadcaster James Whale sadly died last month aged 74 after a heartbreaking battle with terminal cancer, and now the radio legend’s final wishes have been revealed
James Whale reportedly left a huge sum to his wife and kids in his will.
The broadcaster sadly died last month aged 74 after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. The TalkTV host had stage four kidney cancer that had spread to his brain, spine and lungs.
James, who was first diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2000, had been receiving end-of-life care at a hospice in Kent. He died on August 4 and his estate was reportedly signed off by the High Court last week.
The radio presenter reportedly left “almost all” of his £715,000 estate to his beloved wife Nadine, whom he married in 2021. Records obtained by The Sun show he left an estate worth £715,000.
After taxes, fees and debts worth just under £200,000 it was reduced to £517, 200. He is said to have left £75,000 to his children James and Peter, from his first marriage to Melinda Maxted, who died in 2018.
The £75,000 he gave his kids is believed to be tax-free. It’s also said the former Celebrity Big Brother star had requested to be buried in the will, which was signed in April of last year.
James’ wife Nadine, affectionately nicknamed “Lady Whale”, confirmed the broadcaster’s passing. She told the Express: “James slipped away very gently this morning. It was a beautiful passing, and he left with a smile on his face.”
TalkTV also shared a statement on social media that read: “We are sad to announce that James Whale MBE died earlier today, aged 74, following a lengthy battle with cancer.”
James was first diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2000 and went into remission after undergoing treatment. However, in August 2020, he revealed that the cancer had spread to his spine, brain and lungs.
He said he “felt at peace” in the hospice after being told he had just weeks to live. In a heartbreaking column for the Express, he wrote: “What’s surprised me most is how much better in myself I feel since finally moving into a hospice near my home in Kent a week or so back.
The star, who was awarded an MBE for his contributions to broadcasting and charity work, added: “I began to feel better immediately. More positive. I feel at peace here, even though I’m not a religious person.”
“I know I’ve reached the end of my life but I’m quite sanguine about it. Despite everything, I’m happy to go now and a lot of that is due to the people who work here, because they make dying as peaceful and pain-free as possible.”
