This Morning star Ruth Langsford has shared an update on her mum Joan’s health as the 94-year-old remains unwell following a recent health struggle on Mother’s Day
Ruth Langsford has shared a concerning update about her mum.
The former This Morning presenter confessed to having a rather different Mother’s Day in a heartfelt Instagram post, where she also updated fans on her mum’s health.
In addition to her commitments at ITV, 65-year-old Ruth also looks after her 94-year-old mum Joan at home. The pair live with Ruth’s dog Maggie following her split from Eamonn Holmes last year.
On Mother’s Day, Ruth posted a video of Joan dancing in the kitchen, but disclosed that it was an old clip and that her mum was currently battling a health issue and wasn’t able to celebrate the special day.
“HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all you wonderful mums out there but especially to my amazing Mum Joan. I’m sharing an old video because unfortunately Mum’s not well… she’s got a nasty chest infection so she’s not up to celebrating today,” she wrote in her caption.
“Maggie and I are with her though and giving her lots of TLC. I’m sure she’ll be back peeling the veg, dancing and drinking sherry in my kitchen very soon. Hope you’re all having a lovely day with your Mum if you’re fortunate, like me, to have her,” reports the Mirror.
Several of Ruth’s celebrity pals sent their love, with Vanessa Feltz commenting: “Happiest of days to you and your gorgeous mum.” Josie Gibson left a series of heart emojis under the post, while Kate Thornton wrote: “Wishing her better and Happy Mother’s Day.”
The Loose Women star later issued an update on her mum’s health with an Instagram Story. She posted a sweet snippet of Joan cosying up on the couch, giving some love to Maggie the dog.
“Nurse Maggie,” Ruth wrote. She followed up with: “Mum still not well but she says thank you for all your lovely messages!”
After a nasty chest infection and a hospital dash due to a broken pelvis from a tumble, Joan couldn’t make it to Ruth’s for the festive season last year.
She managed to get back to her house in January, but is still battling Alzheimer’s. The pair were forced to say goodbye to Ruth’s dad Dennis, who sadly died back in 2012.
Ruth has previously been open about her own fears, worrying that she may end up diagnosed with Alzheimer’s as her parents both suffered with the disease.
“I’m a bit ‘head in the sand’ about Alzheimer’s. Both my parents have had it, I know what it entails and it horrifies me,” she told Woman and Home.
“There’s a test you can do to see if you’re more likely to get it, but, because there’s no medication to treat it, I’d rather not know. When I have senior moments, as people call them, I panic. Then I let it go, because I can’t bear to think about that.”
