Severance fans convinced Ricken Hale is a goat – and there is a lot of evidence

Severance fans have long had their suspicions about Ricken Hale, Devon Scout’s husband and Mark’s brother-in-law, and a new theory explains that the author is actually…a goat?

Yes, Severance fans are convinced that Ricken Hale is a goat.

Back in season one of the Apple TV show, Ricken Hale – played by Michael Chernus – read parts of his book The You You Are out to a room full of family and friends. Some have noticed that Ricken’s voice wavers, or “bleats,” as he reads quotes from his work.

Fans have also pointed out that in the opening credits for series two, actor Michael Chernus’ name appears while an animated version of Mark transforms into a goat. Later in series two, Devon proudly shows a picture of Ricken scaling the side of a cliff to Mark and Gemma over dinner.

Mountain goats are known for balancing on the side of cliff edges, using nothing but their hooves and small shelves of rock an attempt to climb up or down.

Ricken Hale may look like a goat, but are you convinced he really is one?

Elsewhere on Reddit, PlaneRoom7681 issued an extensive list of “evidence” to try and convince fellow streamers that Ricken is, in fact, a goat. They explained he is described as “very outdoorsy,” that his “friends exhibit goat-like behaviour” (namely Rebeck’s strange chewing and weird smell) and that his phone alarm is a cow bell.

They also wrote: “His parents conceived him as part of a performance art piece so it’s not a stretch to think they might have let Lumon experiment with Ricken, his entire life has been one big performance piece.”

The Reddit user also pointed out that he has a “shaggy beard similar to a goat’s” – which someone pointed out could even be called a goatee – and joked that The Ewe You are is a very cheeky pun that scriptwriters left as an Easter Egg.

Severance’s bizarre goat storyline has left fans baffled for years

Fans rushed to the comments to support the outlandish theory and one person chimed in with: “You know what…hell yeah.”

“Time to pack it up boys, this is the only theory we need,” said another fan of the show, while a third said: “Would this make his daughter….a kid?”

Gemma actress Dichen Lachman spoke to NBC News about the bold claims and said that the Ricken-goat theory is “absolutely hilarious”.

Irving may have been severed multiple times by Lumon

“Could it be possible? Maybe. They have definitely backed up why they think he’s a goat and pulled all the reasons. It’s a silly one, but I love how wild they get. There’s so many out there, too many to list, but that’s the wildest one.”

As if the Severance fanbase couldn’t get any more unhinged, another wild theory has surfaced claiming that Irving used to have Milchick’s job and that he has been severed multiple times.

The beloved character played by John Turturro is known for his fierce loyalty and kind nature, but all may not be what it seems with the Macrodata Refiner.

Streamers seem to think the duo once went up against each other for the same job

Over on Reddit, one Severance fan said: “I’ve come across a lot of things which don’t add up unless the answer is Irving was previously a manager,” before explaining that his iconic painting of a long black corridor with an elevator at the end is a “painting from Milchick’s point of view”.

Fans are aware that “Irving has worked at Lumon for nine years but has only been severed for three” and that the artwork is painted from Milchick’s position, which is another word for job, which could hint: “Irving and Milchick have held the same position.”

Many fans seem to think that either Irving once had Milchick’s job as Severance floor manager, or that the pair were up for the same position when Petey left. Milchick clearly landed the job, meaning that Irving may have been severed multiple times as his Innie has no recollection of the location of the elevator in his paintings.
