Short shorts worn by the likes of Paul Mescal are in favour with blokes this summer

Short shorts are back in favour with blokes this summer. Forget knee-length cargos, it’s time to don shorts which barely cover the wedding tackle, according to fashionistas.

Celebrity fellas – like actor Paul Mescal, model David Gandy, and singer Harry Styles – kicked off the craze, which is sweeping Britain as temperatures soar past 30C.

Fellas at Wimbledon, like Carlos Alcaraz, are heightening the craze for short shorts as millions tune in to the tennis.

M&S, which has a range of teeny shorts for fellas, have called it a ‘thigh guy summer’ as chaps show off their quads.

Google itself has seen a 138% rise in searches for ‘men’s short shorts’, while TikTok has more than 113,000 videos with the %23shortshorts hashtag.

Stylist Peter Bevan said that short shorts were becoming the ‘norm’ in a man’s wardrobe, saying he was ‘all for a thigh guy summer’.

He said: “I think it’s good that short shorts are becoming a staple in lots of guys’ wardrobes – myself included.”

He warned, however, that the shorts shouldn’t be ‘too revealing’, adding: “It should only be your legs on show, avoid anything which could be described as revealing.”

Personal shopper Gina Rogers said that some men would look good in short shorts, but that some men should avoid them like the plague.

She said: “If you’ve got great thighs, then yes, but if your thighs are a little thunderous then I’d stick to knee-length shorts.

“I’m all for letting it all hang out, but there does need to be a limit, and as far as I’m concerned the thigh’s the limit for some men.”

Luke Jefferson Day, editor of menswear magazine Man About Town, said he loved short shorts, especially if they showed off how much ‘thigh work’ you did at the gym.

He said: “It’s all about fit and making sure they aren’t too tight or short.

“A shorter short also tends to be more flattering on a man’s leg.

“They’re great for showing off hard work in the gym.”
