EXCLUSIVE: Simon Cowell and Pete Waterman are working together again more than 20 years after having big success together with Pop Idol. They pair will be back on TV on a new Netflix show about the music industry
Pete Waterman and Simon Cowell have reunited for a new TV project.
The former Pop Idol judges are teaming up for new reality show The Next Act.
They will be putting together a new boy band on the series, which is being made for Netflix.
Pete said: “I have been doing some filming with Simon for the show.
“It’s great fun to be doing something together again. We are best mates.”
Pete is thrilled he was asked to be part of the series.
He added: “I agreed to do it straightaway. If Simon asked me to walk across hot coals, I’d do it.”
Pete and Simon had big success when they starred on Pop Idol between 2001 and 2003.
They made the show a ratings winner for ITV and discovered a string of top acts.
Pete said: “It was an amazing time. Everyone was negative about it. My own staff told me I shouldn’t do it. But I wanted to do it.
“I thought going on the road with Simon would be a laugh.
“Me and him have always had that love hate relationship. That’s what made Pop Idol work.”
The Next Act, which will be a six-part run, will launch in December.
Bosses at Netflix are hoping the series will be a big hit with fans.
When it was announced earlier this year, a spokesperson said: “Music mogul and record executive Simon Cowell has single-handedly created some of the biggest music superstars in the world.
“In the brand-new docuseries cameras follow him as he sets out to do it once again. From raw open casting calls to the release of the group’s debut single, this is an all-access pass for viewers to catch every moment of Cowell’s next chapter. Will he strike gold and break industry records once again?”
