The Sopranos star Dominic Chianese is mourning the loss of his daughter, Sarah Francesca Chianese, who has tragically passed away at 58 after a courageous health battle.
The mob drama star had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive and malignant brain tumour originating from astrocytes in the glial cells. “Sarah Francesca Chianese, daughter of Dominic Chianese, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15th,” read a heartfelt tribute posted on a fan page for the family.
“She valiantly fought against glioblastoma and was only 58 years old. Her loving father remained by her side until her final moments.” Sarah’s sister Rebecca expressed: “Sarah was a bright light in this world, she wanted everyone to live their happiest life and smile when they think of her,” reports the Mirror.
Her daughter also shared her thoughts: “Eulogy for Sarah Francesca Chianese. How am I to eulogize my mother, Sarah Francesca Chianese? It’s not that I lack the linguistic capabilities. I know my ABCs. I can count fairly well.
“Yet, facing this task is anything but easy. I could probably find guides with a quick Google search, complete with clickbait articles offering ten easy steps. But I’m going to wing it, so please bear with me.”
In a conversation with PEOPLE, Sarah’s brother Dominic Jr. reflected on her legacy, noting that she will always be remembered for “her kindness”, which he described as “one of the greatest human attributes”.
“She was dedicated to her craft, like a real artist when it came to that,’ he said before describing how her dad was by her side until the very end. He went on: “I would just like to say that my father was there in her final days to support her in her transition. It was important to her and him both.”
On his mum’s Instagram page, Sarah’s son hailed her as “one of the most accomplished women I’ve ever known”. He continued: “Whether it was reclaiming and restoring old barns, working in a law firm in her early twenties, or dominating the Hudson Valley with her catering company in her late fifties, she got the job done-always in record time, with unreal competence. “.
Her father Dominic, now 94, is best remembered for his portrayal of Tony’s Uncle Junior in the hit series The Sopranos. His character served as a mentor and the nominal head of the family.
Uncle June, as he was affectionately known, was the obstinate, traditionalist boss of the family – but only in name on the series. Tony allowed his uncle to assume the role of boss to prevent a civil war, enabling him to pull the strings behind the scenes without attracting law enforcement attention.
Dominic, also renowned for his performance as Johnny Ola in The Godfather Part II, later featured in Boardwalk Empire and The Good Wife.
