Steve Irwin’s daughter Bindi rushed to hospital as she undergoes urgent surgery

Bindi Irwin was forced to undergo emergency surgery after being rushed to hospital following the rupture of her appendix, with the star unable to attend the Steve Irwin Gala

Bindi Irwin, the daughter of the late Steve Irwin, has had to undergo emergency surgery, causing her to miss her father’s annual tribute event.

The 26-year-old wildlife warrior was set to attend the Steve Irwin Gala but found herself in hospital instead after her appendix burst. She was all set for the gala on Saturday night but ended up needing urgent medical attention. Her mother, Terri Irwin, was by her side throughout, providing much-needed support.

Her brother, Robert Irwin, confirmed that Bindi is on the mend post-surgery, although the hospital trip was an unexpected twist amidst their preparations for the event. He also touched upon Bindi’s battle with endometriosis, which she has been dealing with for some time.

In a conversation with People Magazine, Robert shared: “She’s going to be OK, but surgery – out of all the things we were ready for, that was not one of them. She’s just come out the other side of endometriosis and now the appendix goes. Health is so important – it really is.

“Bindi has become an incredible advocate for women’s health, particularly, and I think it’s really important to prioritise getting help.”, reports the Mirror.

He added that despite Bindi’s eagerness to attend the gala, her well-being had to take precedence. He further commented: “She came to Las Vegas and was ready to come to the gala, put on a brave face in a lot of discomfort and a lot of pain and said, ‘Nope, I’m just going to tough it out, I’m going to go for it.’ But the surgeon said, ‘No, your appendix is going. That thing’s gotta come out.’ Health has to come first. She’s very sad. She’s devastated that she and Mum can’t be here, but I know she’ll make a speedy recovery.”

Just a day prior, Bindi had expressed her excitement about attending the event to her followers. On Instagram, she posted: “Khaki by day – Bellagio chic by night! Here in #LasVegas for the #SteveIrwinGala raising funds and awareness for Wildlife Warriors. Supporting conservation and remembering Dad’s extraordinary legacy. Enormous gratitude to everyone for your support as we continue to do all that we can to protect wildlife and wild places for the future generations.”

Over the years, Bindi has been candid about her health struggles, disclosing her battle with endometriosis. She revealed that she endured ten years of pain and fatigue before finally receiving a diagnosis post-surgery.

Following her surgery, the new mum informed her followers that doctors discovered 37 lesions and a cyst. In a message to her fans, Bindi shared: “I decided to undergo surgery for endometriosis … Every part of my life was getting torn apart because of the pain. To cut a long story short, they found 37 lesions, some very deep and difficult to remove, a chocolate cyst.
