Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement this week, and fans have been left stunned by a resurfaced interview in which the singer spoke about getting married
Archive footage from over a decade ago has emerged showing Taylor Swift discussing her future marriage plans, gaining fresh attention this week after news broke of the singer-songwriter’s recent engagement to Travis Kelce.
Taylor, 35, and NFL sensation Travis, also 35, revealed their engagement through a shared Instagram post on Tuesday. The romantic proposal occurred in the garden of the Kansas City Chiefs star’s residence, with additional details since emerging.
In the wake of this announcement, old clips of Taylor hinting at her eventual wedding plans have resurfaced online. The interview footage spans back 17 years, recorded during her meteoric rise following her debut album two years earlier.
The clip, now circulating across social media platforms, captures her appearance on GAC Nights in 2008. At the time, Taylor was promoting her sophomore release, Fearless, when she discussed the challenges of romance in the spotlight with presenter Suzanne Alexander.
Reflecting on celebrity relationships, Taylor expressed admiration for country star Keith Urban and actress Nicole Kidman. She noted how the couple maintained privacy around their romance until marriage, whilst prioritising their individual professional pursuits, reports the Mirror.
Taylor continued: “I’m single right now, but it’s like if I was dating somebody… I think it’s important to make sure that the focus is on your music. My music is where I’m always gonna be personal. I don’t hold anything back in that category.”
Suzanne hinted that Taylor might not tie the knot until her thirties, based on her recent remarks. The host playfully brought up Taylor’s mum, Andrea Swift, who was present during the chat, and speculated about Taylor’s matrimonial future.
The presenter quipped: “So we’re not gonna find out until you’re married and your mom’s here so … mom, [she’s] not allowed to get married until she’s 35, right? That’s the way it works.”
Taylor, who was just 18 at the time of the interview, seemed to concur with the idea, replying: “I’m not … no. It’s gonna be late.”
She further clarified: “Late in life.”
This old footage has resurfaced and is making waves this week, being widely shared across social media platforms and sparking reactions from fans. One Instagram user commented: “All the stars are alligned.” While another simply posted: “Wild.”
Taylor and Travis recently revealed their engagement news in a joint post featuring snaps from the romantic proposal. The lovebirds, surrounded by a floral paradise in his garden, proudly displayed the ring, which Travis reportedly had a hand in designing.
In the caption accompanying a TNT emoji, they excitedly told fans on Tuesday: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The post also featured Taylor’s track ‘So High School’ from her album ‘The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology’, which dropped last year.
